About this deal

The Sadness ( Chinese: 哭悲; pinyin: Kū Bēi) is a 2021 Taiwanese body horror film written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Rob Jabbaz in his feature film directorial debut. [1] It stars Berant Zhu and Regina as a Taiwanese couple who attempt to reunite amidst a viral pandemic that turns people into homicidal maniacs. [2] Just a couple days ago, I brought out this book to read it to my boy. Most of what I remembered about the book is that it was touching and honest. I thought it would be a good stepping off point that I could use to have a discussion with my boy. When I first read this book, I didn't have any kids. I was able to appreciate the frank honesty of the book. The horned-up blood-letting in “The Sadness” seems designed to challenge viewers’ sensitivities, like the vampiric crisis in David Cronenberg’s early button-pusher “Shivers” or the gut-munching siege on the Monroeville Mall in George Romero’s classic “Dawn of the Dead.” Sometimes, “The Sadness” appears so calculated as to have been made with the express purpose of topping those previous movies. But what puts Jabbaz’s movie over the top is the sheer thoroughness of its execution and conception. There are a couple of key scenes that are both immediately repellent and intellectually disarming because of their ruthless misanthropy. He describes his peculiar behaviour, and there's humour in here, well paced and funny. He tries to figure out "ways of being sad that don't hurt so much" and he shares them all. They're all worth trying. Then he writes about writing. He writes about writing about "sad".

The story is very simplistic and there’s little in the way of character development. Still, I was invested in the story of the main characters. The actors have good chemistry in their brief moments together so I was willing to see them reunited. The Sadness was released in theatres in Taiwan on 22 January 2021. [3] It had its international premiere at the 74th Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland on 12 August 2021. [4] It was screened at the 25th Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada, in August 2021, [4] [6] as well as at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, in September 2021. [2] Sad means go somewhere, call your doctor, get a prescription or something, just go away with that nasty business. Night of the Missing is gory, frightening, and able to meld these differing stories into a wonderfully disturbing narrative. a b c d Everington, Keoni (18 January 2021). "Taiwan-made zombie movie creeps into theaters Friday". Taiwan News . Retrieved 15 August 2021.

By the moonlight he watched his wife for the last time. His hand sought the adjacent flesh and sorrow paralleled desire in the immense complexity of love.” The narrative provides just enough details about Kat and Jim to ensure we root for them to survive as unscathed as possible on their harrowing voyage through limb and corpse littered streets. But The Sadness doesn’t have much time for character depth or development as it barrels from set piece to set piece. The mild-mannered pair often gets lost and overshadowed against the bombastic, morally twisted infected they encounter. I've been there, many times. Hope you have not. This very well illustrated book says it all, the smiling and pretending to be happy, the anger of them leaving, the memories, the photograph books, wanting to speak to them or about them to others that are gone too....or just wanting to keep it all private....and scream! If a child is to *touch wood* experience loss in my class I will 100% be sharing this with them. It is such an important book and should be read by people of all ages.As the disturbing tales continue to unravel, the most terrifying revelation may be that the monster behind them is much closer than anyone thinks.”

Kat and Molly arrive at the hospital, which is overrun with those who have been harmed by the infection. The government broadcasts an emergency message vowing to take control of the situation, but an infected general then kills the president with a grenade. The hospital patients begin to panic, distracting the police officers there, just as the Businessman and other infected locals break through the doors. Kat escapes into a stairwell as the Businessman rapes Molly's eye wound, infecting her. But what makes the story most singular and rewarding is that it refuses to indulge the cultural cliché of cushioning tragedy with the promise of a silver lining. It is redemptive not in manufacturing redemption but in being true to the human experience — intensely, beautifully, tragically true. I have always had a high tolerance for violence and gore and wanting to push the boundaries of horror as a genre, but I feel that as I've aged I've mellowed out more and my tolerance has plummeted to the point that I can't stand to stomach horror films that are so mean-spirited and vile. Perhaps this is due to life experiences I have had involving the deaths of loved ones and close friends or perhaps as I've grown, I've realised that I no longer enjoy watching being be brutally butchered and raped for no reason at all. In April 2022, it was confirmed that the film would begin streaming on Shudder on May 12, 2022. [ citation needed] Reception [ edit ] Critical response [ edit ]

He mentions his second son, Eddie, who died of meningitis aged 18 and how it has left a void never to be filled again. As I was reading this book, I was awaiting the news of my father's passing, which came two days later. The anxiety and the heartbreak that is illustrated in this book is something I found very relatable.
