This book is beautifully written. Simone's writing is intense, compelling, honest, vulnerable, and addictive. My favorite part of this book was Simone's unfiltered honesty. She continued: “As I write about in The Fate We Make, I was brought up with the firm belief that you had to keep your problems to yourself, and that to do otherwise was a social taboo.The photos and QR codes to music help you connect to Simone’s life even more and were a nice touch. I felt like a friend that Simone was telling her story to and wanted to protect her and give her a big hug. I've never read a memoir before but I have read quite a few coming-of-age stories and this was definitely of the most heartfelt but tragic so far. The Fate We Make” is a powerful and captivating memoir that chronicles the life of Simone Warren, a woman who navigates the complexities of family expectations and her journey toward self-discovery. Born into a Singaporean Chinese family rooted in tradition, Simone’s story is a compelling tale of survival, resilience, and the pursuit of happiness. The memoir takes readers on an emotional journey, exploring Simone’s life from her formative years to adulthood. It beautifully depicts the lives of the strong woman who shaped her family, providing valuable insight into the cultural and societal challenges she faced. A. I come from a long line of strong women who have endured much hardship including arranged marriages, domestic violence, child loss, grief, and infidelity. Therefore, from a young age, I realised that I had to grin and bear it, bury the pain, and carry on regardless. Being of Chinese descent, I believe in respecting tradition and always wanted to do as I was told and live up to what was expected of me. I subjugated my personal wants and needs for the greater good and to conform with familial and societal expectations. A. Seek help. Speak up about what is happening. There are so many people and organisations who can help you to escape to safety, to protect you and your children. It is NOT your fault. You deserve to be free from pain, stress, fear, and guilt. You deserve to feel safe and happy. Believe me when I reassure you from my own real life experience that your children will thrive once they are removed from the toxically abusive environment. Life is too short, so allow others to help you and your children to live your best lives. Warren's ability to vividly recount her life's chapters, from her vibrant childhood to her tumultuous adolescence and into young womanhood, offers readers a profound insight into the challenges she faced and the decisions that shaped her.
