About this deal

All birds are protected by the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981. The control of birds in the UK is permitted but is governed by the UK ‘General Licences’. There are four versions – one each for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as terms vary. Bird wire acts as an effective solution for preventing birds like seagulls, crows, and pigeons from landing and causing a nuisance. You will tend to find bird wire being used on the edge of rooftops, window sills, parapets, beams, pipes, balustrades, and they are frequently used to protect historic buildings and stately homes. Ensure you have primed the surface with glue before applying glue to the spikes. Bird spikes should be glued down with a neutral cure low modulus adhesive. Other adhesives will only provide a temporary fixing to bird spikes as temperature fluctuations and chemical reaction with the polycarbonate will cause separation between the glue and the spike base. This tried and tested Defender® Seagull Deterrent Spike is the toughest gull deterrent on the UK and worldwide market and comes with a 25-Year “No Rust” Warranty when installed in the UK. This seagull spike has been made in the UK with the best quality materials that will withstand the most persistent and strong seagulls. The spike pins are made from 304 Grade stainless steel and are inserted by hand to ensure they are securely fixed in place. Each pin is inserted into a Durolon UV Stabilised Polycarbonate base. This ensures the spikes do not become damaged due to the adverse effects of extreme weather. Seagull Deterrent Spikes Made in the UK Base Colour – Transparent clear base blends well with most surfaces irrespective of the surface colour

Due to the nature of bird control issues, the areas needing to be proofed will often be high up on your property and hard to access. If you intend to do the bird-proofing yourself, you must be confident using ladders and working at height. If you cannot do the work yourself, please get in touch with a roofer, pest control company or handyman to assist you. Defender® Ridge Roof Spikes are made in the UK, in Devon, using only the highest quality materials. Jones and Son Pest Control Supplies Ltd design and manufacture these high-quality stainless steel bird and seagull ridge roof spikes. The husband and wife team, David and Kursty Jones, ensure all the Defender® Bird Control Products are not only high quality, but also long lasting and, most importantly, 100% effective. This high-quality, UK-manufactured pigeon and seagull roof spike has a 25 Year "No Rust" Warranty when installed in the UK. This means the pins will not tarnish whatever the weather throws at it. The tough base is made from super strong polycarbonate, ensuring that, once the roof spikes have been installed, there is no need to replace them for years to come. The householder, therefore, has complete peace of mind that their property will remain bird free. Seagull Deterrent Spikes Made in the UK The Stainless Steel Spikes Deterrent is an effective, humane solution for preventing seagulls from landing and roosting on roof parapets, walls, ledges, girders and other narrow flat surfaces. Seagulls cannot land on the un-even surface created by the spikes and will permanently leave the protected area. Step 3 – Install: Open out the strap to its full length of 107 cm. The base of the pins are pre-bent slightly outwards, this is to accommodate any moulding that can often be seen around the rim of the chimney pot. Position the strap just below this and the lip will sit within the bend in the spike. If the chimney pot has no moulding or lip, position the strap about 5 cm below the top so the straight part of the pins sit on the top of the rim.

Prevent pigeons, indian mynas, sparrows, starlings and other pest birds from perching on your property. Although the installation of our Defender® Roof Spikes is easy, as you simply apply fixing silicone to the base and pressing down into position, the nature of the product means that access can be difficult. If you are at all worried about using ladders or gaining access to high areas like the roof, we would really recommend talking to a professional pest controller or property maintenance company. The spikes are sold in two foot sections, twenty five sections per box totaling 50 linear feet. Spikes are five inches long, fabricated specifically to deter seagulls and other large birds. The flexible base of the spike strip is 1 ½ ” wide and can be glued, nailed, screwed or tied down to most surfaces. These spikes carry an industry leading 10 year warranty from the manufacturer. They are non-corrosive and require virtually no maintenance. Rooftops are an ideal replacement to replace their natural nesting habitat and urban areas often inadvertently provide a regular food source. Once a gull has nested they will return each year to the same area unless they are prevented access. This can be done through the use of seagull spikes. Add extra rows behind the first if needed. Leave as small a gap as possible between the rows; the pins should be almost touching to prevent the pigeons or seagulls from gaining access. Leave no gap bigger than 2.5 cm anywhere to prevent a pigeon or seagull from gaining a foothold.Management of any birds under the licences can only be completed where the species is causing conflict with conservation or public safety.
