About this deal

Sal Suds isn’t a soap but a detergent, which means the natural cleaner is free-rinsing, doesn’t leave a residue, and performs well in any level of water hardness and temperature. Can I use castile soap if a recipe says Sal Suds? Windows:Dissolve 1 tsp. (5 mL) soap cream in 1 quart (1 L) warm water in a spray bottle. Spray window and squeegee. Follow with spray of club soda or vinegar/water. Wipe dry. You can simply just use the ingredients above and skip the essential oils all together, but I like to add them for a scent booster! You want to make sure you are buying your essential oils from a reputable source. Not all essential oils are the same and hold the same safety values and concentration. Bathroom Cleaning: Use it to clean sinks, tubs, showers, and toilets. It’s effective at removing soap scum and grime.

To clean couches and carpet stains: I spray it directly on, wait about fifteen to 30 seconds, scrub with a wet rag or wet scrub brush. Then wipe it clean with a fresh towel. I use it as a detergent in my carpet shampooer for both carpet and upholstery…remember it is crazy concentrated though, so make sure to read the instructions on how to use it to shampoo carpets, found here, or it will be a sudsy mess. My sister said that she has had success by putting some (undiluted) on a permanent marker stain that was on the carpet, left it to soak for a bit, added water and scrubbed at it (used a fresh towel to wipe it up) and the marker was gone. Through all of this research, we were able to reduce a large group of dishwashing soaps down to a manageable 14. Finally, we donned our rubber gloves and went to work individually testing each one. We looked at how effective and efficient the different brands are, along with their price and appeal. How we tested Warning: Be prepared to clear up a ton of space under your kitchen or utility sink when you throw away all your other cleaning products. Plus, it’s good to have as few harsh chemicals in the home as possible. :)** A single soap molecule is hydrophobic on one end and hydrophilic on the other. The hydrophobic end repels water and attaches to the oil. The hydrophilic end attracts water. When soap is mixed with the oil in the water, it binds with the dirt and oil, separating it into small drops that are easily rinsed away. I knew I wanted simple ingredients but they actually had to work. Finding exactly what I was looking for was a challenge so I went out on my own. I found a number of recipes that I liked certain ingredients in and then experimented to make my own using those ingredients. It took some trial and error but I am very pleased with the results!Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Coco-Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Abies Siberica (Siberian Fir) Needle Oil, Picea Glauca (Spruce) Leaf Oil, Citric Acid, Sodium Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Hydroxide. Here’s one of my latest cleaning videos, which shows me making the cleaner and using it on our floors (watch at 23:43)… If you’re reusing an old detergent bottle, make sure the soap is fully cool before adding to a plastic container. For a subtle scent, add an essential oil (if desired). Step 4: Add Essential Oil For Scent I’m a newcomer to Sal Suds. I’ve used Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap for decades (lavender) for bathing, but had used another plant based soap for dishes, etc. My skin, specifically my hands, cannot handle the chemicals in other products anymore. The plant based dish soap I’ve been using for quite some time is no longer available here on the island, and I’d read this “cheat sheet” for Sal Suds and went in search.

Dr. Bronner’s qualifies for the rabbit and stars logo of the Coalition for Consumer information on Cosmetics (CCIC). This logo certifies that the product and its ingredients are not tested on animals. The CCIC, a coalition of animal rights organizations, requires independent audit for confirmation. Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds All Purpose Cleaner does not contain animal products. Last year I shared a dish soap recipe on the blog titled, Easy Dish Soap. That recipe truly is easy to make, but after months and months of making that soap, I decided there must be an even easier way to make dish soap, a super easy dish soap. If enjoying real food means cooking and sometimes baking (PS: Did you make the blueberry muffins yet? Just one bowl is required.), a good grease-cutting, hard-working, nothing-left-behind dish soap is a major necessity. And this is where the dilemma begins…Optional Ingredients: I like to add glycerin and a nourishing oil to this dish soap recipe for moisturizing benefits. Trust me, your hands will thank you! You can add these ingredients or skip them, either way you’ll still create an effective dish soap. Hi Jen – No, a disinfectent or a sanitizer is a product that contains a pesticide that kills. Sal Suds does not contain such a pesticide. Instead, soaps or detergents, including Sal Suds, clean by removing. They latch on to germs, dirt, oils, and other debris and remove them from all manner of surfaces.

Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Coco-Betaine, Decyl Glucoside, Abies Siberica (Siberian Fir) Needle Oil, Picea Glauca (Spruce) Leaf Oil, Citric Acid, Sodium Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Hydroxide They grade commonly used consumer products from A-F. They look at the ingredients to determine any chemicals known to cause skin irritations, asthma, cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, and harm to the environment. We have included these grades in our scoring. The bottom line Pretreating Laundry Stains: Pre-measure Sal Suds for load. Apply some or all directly to stain(s). Let sit 30 minutes or more. Add remaining Sal Suds to washer. For broad stain, spray with a solution of half Sal Suds/half water. The reason washing soda sometimes is referred to as soda ash is because it is often made from the ash of burnt plants. It can also be made by putting baking soda in the oven to remove the water and carbon dioxide. The heat causes a chemical reaction which changes the baking soda to washing soda. Washing soda is higher alkaline than baking soda. Borax: This ingredient has been highly debated in the natural community. Some believe this ingredient is toxic, while others, like myself, hold strong to the belief that borax is just as natural as baking soda. If you’re on the fence about this ingredient, I highly recommend reading this well-researched article from Wellness Mama. Then, add this ingredient to your homemade dish soap for its grease-fighting power. Borax also helps to fight against hard water spots and residue. We might as well look for ways to make it more enjoyable. We looked at both smell and feel to provide a helpful guide. Personal taste determines whether these traits are pleasing, as some prefer a clear soap with no fragrance and others prefer something more stimulating to the senses.
