About this deal

The Galaxy S22 Ultra generally impressed with this photo of chrysanthemum flowers taken indoors. Samsung's phone delivers rich tones of purple, maroon and yellow. However, the iPhone 13 Pro Max delivers a brighter shot and much better details in the petals. The Pixel 6 Pro also outperforms the S22 Ultra, as there's simply more definition in its shot.

It’s not just a looker, though. The Galaxy S22 Ultra – like the rest of the lineup – is fully IP68-certified against dust and water, and it’s also the first smartphone to benefit from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus, which is a new protective layer that’s been applied to both the front and rear of the handset. According to Samsung, Victus Plus is 12.5% stronger than the Gorilla Glass Victus on last year’s model, and the S22’s new “Armour Aluminum” chassis is more durable, too. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra review: S Pen stylus When people say, “So, it’s basically a new Samsung Galaxy Note, right?” we have to flip over the phone to show them the camera array, which is a dead ringer for the one on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.Part of this has to do with the stabilization, which at 100x, basically takes control of the lens and holds a subject (like the moon) in the frame. It can feel a little like you’re no longer in control of the lens, but it does do a good job of countering your shaky hands. I’m also yet to test the new graphics rendering features that the Xclipse GPU supports, since there doesn’t seem to be a single game on the Google Play store that currently utilises ray tracing and VRS.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy S22 Ultra comes in four flavours. To start with, there’s the “cheapest” model, which comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The further three models all come with 12GB of RAM, with your storage choices being 256GB, 512GB or 1TB. The S22 Ultra doesn’t allow for microSD expansion, so choose wisely. Part of Samsung’s new S22 lineup, but looking nothing like its siblings, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is to the casual observer a Galaxy Note in a shiny, new coat. It does have a much bigger and bolder camera array (lifted pretty much intact from the S21 Ultra), but it’s otherwise a canny adjustment of the Note aesthetic or, as Samsung might call it, the “Note Experience.” Still, this adjustment leaves it as easily the best Samsung phone. More surprising was the fact that Apple launched a 1TB option of its iPhone 13 Pro range, meaning it was offering larger storage sizes than its South Korean counterpart - a rare move, and one that proved there’s a market for those wanting to capture a lot of high-quality video.Battery life could be better: We saw a little over 10 hours of endurance in our web surfing battery test. That's good but behind the iPhone 13 Pro Max's over 12 hours. As expected, the performance is top-notch across the board thanks to the Exynos 2200 chipset and 8GB of RAM. It's no better than Apple's A15 Bionic, but it keeps things more than buttery-smooth and snappy in all tasks and apps you could think of. The graphics performance here alone makes the S22 Ultra also a fantastic gaming phone - it handles games with no hiccups. The 5,000mAh battery here offers a day of usage on a full charge with fast charging as well as wireless charging support, but nothing more than that. We wish it lasted for more than that but a full day is still okay. We also noticed that there are some heat-related issues when performing demanding tasks, so beware of that as well. S22 Ultra: Price UK Despite having only 8GB of RAM, the Galaxy S22 Ultra feels super smooth when opening and closing apps. In fact, the S22 Ultra felt faster than the iPhone 13 Pro Max when switching or closing apps, as you can see in the TikTok video above. The Galaxy S22 Ultra struggled a bit in this photo of Times Square on a sunny day. The sky is more washed out, as are the buildings being hit by the sun. The exposure just seems a little off, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max delivers a deeper blue in the sky without losing the clouds, and the billboard and The Counter signs are both easier to make out. The Pixel 6 Pro offers similar advantages from its shot, but the image looks flatter overall.

The format and amount of Single Take results may differ based on original capture. Results may also differ between Rear and Front Camera captures. Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ are rated as IP68. Based on test conditions for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Not advised for beach or pool use. The first is simply that the passage of time means that larger storage options have become more normalized. When Samsung was first pushing the 1TB S10 in 2019, it’s worth remembering that you could still buy a 64GB iPhone 11, and even Galaxy S handsets started at 128GB. Larger capacities are simply the norm nowadays, and 1TB doesn’t seem quite as extreme as it did three years ago. Network: The bandwidths supported by the device may vary depending on the region or service provider.Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the S22 Ultra’s S Pen stylus. Making its first appearance in the S series lineup, Samsung’s dinky stylus is located in the bottom left corner of the handset and is accessible by simply pushing it inwards. You can then use it to jot down notes, doodle for a brief spell and as a remote camera shutter button. Certain resolutions and ratios may not be supported. Certain functions may not be available when Auto Framing is on. Only people can be recognized, and there is a limit to how many people may be recognized. I compared the S22 Ultra and S21 Ultra, and there is a noticeable difference in responsiveness when writing on the display. For example, when jotting down "This is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra," I felt like the words were appearing in real time on the S22 Ultra as I scribbled, while it felt like the S21 Ultra was a half step behind and was trying to keep up with the S Pen. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is easily the most powerful and versatile Android phone this side of a foldable. This is the best display we've tested in a phone, and Samsung's cameras are much improved, especially in low light. Plus, the powerful zoom continues to be hard to beat. Galaxy S22 Ultra and S Pen are rated as IP68. Based on test conditions for submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Not advised for beach or pool use.

Samsung says that the phone’s neural processing unit (NPU) is 2x faster than the previous version, which does a better job at sharpening details and reducing visual noise in low-light conditions. In practice, the S22 Ultra’s night-time images looked sublime and were a significant step up from my comparison handset, the iPhone 12 Pro. Best phone display yet: The Galaxy S22 Ultra's AMOLED panel is not only brighter than the competition, making it ideal for outdoor viewing, it delivers better color saturation. Performance-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor acquits itself nicely (no, it doesn’t beat Apple’s A15 Bionic). The point is, we couldn't find a single app that was sluggish or disappointing on the mobile monolith. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra looks determined to top our best camera phone list and unseat Apple and Google. Our testing shows that the S22 Ultra is a very good camera phone, but it's quite the champ. Virtually every image we shot looked great, even if we did detect a hint of over-saturation (it wouldn’t be Samsung if they didn’t over-saturate the image).Like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the S22 Ultra features a beefy 5,000mAh battery and wireless charging. In our tests, the battery was good for a full day of varied activity (roughly from 7am to 11pm) but not much more (this was the same for mid-range and high-resolution screen settings).
