About this deal

Additional features include IR on and low battery indicators, manual brightness control and auto-shut off function that shuts down the device within seconds when accidentally exposed to bright light, and an integrated IR illuminator for use in extremely low light conditions.

Most people think of night vision as being used in tactical combat situations only, and this is not the case.

It can also be paired with spotting scopes and computers. This ability makes the PVS-14 more versatile than most other night vision monoculars. Helmet Mounted This is not the ideal setup but allows you to have a night vision setup for relatively cheaper than a helmet setup. With autogating in play, blinding flares, startling pops of light and emergency shut-downs are a thing of the past, an important feature that defines autogating's biggest benefit - the maintenance of constant situational awareness. The whole point of getting night vision is to gain the upper hand and have an unfair advantage in darkness. It also requires less ambient light and can be used in near darkness. There is also an automatic shut off system.

This was pretty impressive. The other units I tested could not detect the contrast of the shadow from such a distant and low intensity light source. The impressive performance doesn’t stop there. In additional tests I could see navigation lights on aircraft miles away. I could not see these lights with my naked eyes. High Performance + Another thing to consider is the warranty. Let’s face it: anything man-made can and will fail at some point. Even factory built systems have the potential to go down from time to time. When purchasing something this expensive you need to consider this possibility and make sure you are purchasing a unit that can be serviced next week, next year, or several years down the line. Nobody can say with certainty that any business will be around in several years. But, there is a better chance that companies that have been around for a while and are more established can weather economic storms and have more to stand on than single-person outfits born from some guy and his hobby building stuff from his garage. Now, don’t get me wrong: small companies like that can produce some very well-built items. I am simply suggesting that all things be considered before investing in night vision. There are also sharks in the water that will attempt to blind a buyer with science and prey on the excitement of getting a high tech device while delivering a substandard unit with cheap tubes. The PVS-14 is certainly no exception. It is a quality item and rarely seen outside military service. Minimum quality control for these units is 64 lines per millimeter resolution. Specifications subject to change without notice. The biggest impression I got from this unit: It “sees” more than the other units we’ve tested so far. I helmet tested the PVS-14 in various lighting conditions. While I was testing the unit in a suburban environment I noted that I could see a detailed shadow my body was casting. It was very dark for the area and the nearest light sources were about 200 yards away. I flipped the PVS-14 up to see if the shadow could be seen with the naked eye. Nope. I started to look for the light source that was responsible for the shadow. Through the device I determined that the light source responsible for the shadow was indeed the porch light 200 yards away.
