The juniper in Dyfi gin comes from Eastern Europe, though the Camerons have also planted a miniature juniper plantation with the “dream” of one day becoming self-sufficient in juniper. Danny explains that, beyond juniper, the two key botanicals in Dyfi Original are conifer tips (mostly Scots Pine) and bog myrtle leaf. “Bog myrtle is such a brilliant botanical. It comes from a nature reserve. We don’t just jump over the fence. We work very closely with them. Bog myrtle is mildly antiseptic – some people use it as a midge repellent and before hops were grown in England it was dried and used to flavour beer.”To control the growth rate and ultimate size of the tree.
