Before you dash any plaster on the walls you need to know how to get the perfect mix. If you mix it too hard it will set too fast, but if you mix it too wet then it’s an absolute nightmare to get on the walls. It’s a tough game to follow but don’t fear because we have the ultimate guide on mixing your plaster. As my old instructor used to say “failing to prepare is preparing to fail!” I’ve seen plaster fall from walls, I’ve seen plaster dry too fast, and I’ve even witnessed a ceiling fall down. You need to get this right and never cut any corners or neglect a section. As with all home improvement projects, we always recommend obtaining at least three quotes from different local plasterers in Bath. By shopping around you can make sure you're being quoted a fair and competitive price for the work. Jointing knife – this is used to determine a straight line and for edging into tight or small spaces It can be tough! You probably don’t have a clue where to start and you might even think you can’t do it! Well, guess what?

Now you are ready to apply your final coat of plaster, otherwise referred to as skimming. When skimming, the plaster mixture should be diluted with more water to form a thinner consistency – you should be aiming to plaster approximately a 2mm layer. There really is no one answer to how much a plasterer can do in a day. But we can certainly give you some ideas on how long certain plastering jobs can take to complete. That said, the speed at which a plasterer can complete a job will depend on the complexity of the plastering involved, the size of the job and the individual plasterer's experience and technique. As part of the quoting process, when you speak to local plasterers make sure you ask them how long they think the job will take. And ideally also ask them what method or technique they will be using. The more information you can get from each plastering company, the easier it is to compare the different quotes you get. Now that your plaster is mixed, it is time to begin applying it to the wall. You can practice your technique on a separate plasterboard before you start applying directly to the wall.

That’s why it’s always important to get quotes from local plasterers in Bath, so that you know exactly what sort of price you’ll need to pay for your plastering job. Cost of plastering a ceiling Once your second layer has slightly dried, you should again smooth any imperfections. Do this by spraying water onto the surface and running the trowel across the wall using inward strokes. Like with the first coat, a wet brush can be used around the edges. Finish off by using a clean float to smooth the entire surface one last time. For more information about the Mortar product itself, take a look at this detailed product data sheet.

A plasterer’s hawk board - this is the tool that holds your plaster. A plastic hawk board is lighter than a wooden one, although both types are absolutely fine. A wooden hawk board will last much longer though. Standard hand brush. I wouldn’t be too fussy about this one – it’s literally used to clean your tools and plaster with. You don’t need anything expensive because its main purpose is to clean. Stage 3 – What plaster do you use and how do you mix it?
