About this deal

Percy and Harold and Percy Takes the Plunge is the tenth Ladybird book, based on the second series episodes Percy and Harold and Percy Takes the Plunge. It is illustrated using photographs from the television series. Jerkass Ball: Due to portions of the script being taken verbatim from the original book, Henry is quite rude in this episode. He rudely tells Bill and Ben (foreign tank engines in the book) to leave the sheds and refers to them as "silly things". Second, after Percy defends the twins, Henry also calls him silly, and lastly, in the ending, he laughs at Percy for his incident with the water. When Thomas is on Toby's Old Tramway, Clarabel is facing the wrong way. Then in the next shot, Annie is facing the wrong way.

The next morning, Percy is taken to the works on Henry's goods train. Henry finds the incident very amusing after Percy's earlier boasts. When Percy states he didn't like the water, Henry replies he needs more determination and that perhaps he'll like it better next time. Percy, however, hopes there is no "next time". Despite the fact that the water only reached Percy's footplate, he has a water line across his boiler when he meets Thomas at the end of the episode. Although being adapted for the third series, the events of this episode were mentioned in the second series episode Percy Takes the Plunge. Thus, this episode most likely takes place before the aforementioned episode as it did in the Railway Series. PEEP-PEEP! Come Journey to the Island of Sodor and share in the fun-filled escapades of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. Meet Daisy, a "classy sassy passenger diesel," as well as Trevor, the very useful tractor engine. You'll see why Percy's up to his funnel in water, Gordon looks foolish, and Henry is proud, in their adventures through the Island of Sodor. When Percy is hanging from the cranes, he is not dirty, but when he is placed on the flatbed, he is. Also, his face is dirty when he is sitting on Thomas' flatbed, but when he is sitting on Henry's flatbed, his face is not dirty.

My Book Notes

One day at the harbour, a tired Henry is looking to rest in the sheds after a hard day's work, but instead of peace he finds Percy telling two engines about the time he braved bad weather to help Thomas. However, Percy embellishes the tale, using the phrase "Water's nothing to an engine with determination". The two engines shower Percy with praise and Henry angrily tells them to leave, as the sheds are only for engines belonging to the Fat Controller. Despite the yellow sun on the original covers saying "Stories as seen on Shining Time Station", the stories Daisy, Percy's Predicament and George Carlin's dub of Saved From Scrap were never seen on said show. Continuity Nod: After being teased by Percy, Henry moans that no one will ever forget the time he stayed in the tunnel because he was afraid of the rain. When this episode was repeated on 2nd July 1991, an image of Percy stranded in the harbour water was used for the sneak peak in Radio Times. The fade effect and scene of Percy arriving at Elsbridge with Annie and Clarabel are removed and replaced with a cut and an extended shot of Thomas waiting for Percy.

During an analysis of what happened to the cut adaption of "The Missing Coach", it was stated that this episode was likely made to replace it, contrary to the popular belief that " Thomas, Percy, and the Coal" was the replacement due to the fact that this episode is a Bottle Episode, taking place mostly on a single set, thus explaining why this episode has such an error. Gordon Takes a Tumble | Henry and the Elephant | Percy Takes a Plunge | Thomas and the Special Letter | James and the Trouble with Trees | Spic and Span | Diesel from Thomas to the Rescue | Emily's Adventure When Percy is loaded onto the flatbed, the second sound effect comes in late, and in the close up shot his face moves foward a bit. Despite being the episode title and focus, the episode, Percy Takes the Plunge is actually the seventh and final episode on this DVD.

Some of the 1995 Anchor Bay tapes have the Strand Home Video logo instead of the Video Treasures logo. Once Done, Never Forgotten: Henry, after being teased by Percy for being afraid of the rain, lampshades that no one will ever forget the time he wouldn't leave the tunnel because he thought the rain will spoil his paint. Magazine stories - Percy's Promise (1997), Percy's Promise (2000), Going for a Swim! and Percy Gets Wet! The Target exclusive DVD version featured a watery pouch behind the transparent image of the front cover. It also came in a clear glass-style DVD case. The audio overlaps on most copies, The DVD features the intro, nameboards, and most episodes being sourced from other videos, with only Daisy and Percy Takes the Plunge untouched.

Like the 1995 release of Thomas, Percy and the Dragon and Other Stories, the Embassy Home Entertainment FBI Warning screen is used right before the Video Treasures logo rather than that of Video Treasures. The Fat Controller: Harold told me you were a wizard. He says he can beat you at some things but not at being a submarine. I don't know what you two get up to sometimes but I do know that you're a really useful engine. Percy: Oh, sir! Merchandise Poor Communication Kills: As in " Down the Mine", the danger board does not explain what said danger actually is—in this case, the railway sinking into the sea—and gives the equivalent of "Don't pass me Because I Say So", causing Percy to assume it's an unimportant hindrance and disobey it. Percy arrives at Elsbridge after going through the Low Lands, even though the branch line the Low Lands are located on goes past Elsbridge. The first time that an engine falls into the sea and has to wait until the tide is high enough to be rescued; the second is the fifth series episode, Something in the Air.

When Percy puffs out of Tidmouth Hault after the rain starts, the points are set where he goes into the yard with the passengers.

Narrator: It was a beautiful day but Edward was worried. Edward: Be careful, there's a storm coming. Percy: [to himself] A promise is a promise, no matter what the weather. The scene of Percy plunging intro the sea and the Fat Controller scolding Percy was featured in an episode of the fourth series of the ITV drama series Soldier Soldier. Ringo Starr's US dub was not released on home media until 2001, when it was included on Best of Percy. This recording was also used on a DVD that came with the Take Along playset based on this episode. It was also first heard on an audiobook of A Cow on the Line and Other Thomas the Tank Engine Stories. PEEP! PEEP! Come journey to the Island of Sodor and share in the fun-filled escapades of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. See what happens when Sir Topham Hatt sends for Daisy, the "classy, sassy passenger diesel," to help run his railway. Percy is up to his funnel in water and see how Edward finds a way to make Trevor feel useful again.

This is the first Thomas VHS to feature stories that were not featured on Shining Time Station or re-narrated by George Carlin for said show.
