About this deal

Raamat vastas pooleldi mu ootustele. Along with being the Chief Scout, Grylls remains one of the youngest climbers to summit Mount Everest. He is an EMMY winning host and authored several books on various topics. While I was never a huge fan of the author’s TV shows, I certainly appreciate his many accomplishments throughout his life. Someone who had done so much, and a success by any measure, not necessarily monetary, has much to share with the rest of us.

Another issue is that there aren't any dates in the book and he assume we all know what his many TV shows were about and when they aired. I haven't seen most of them and didn't know what he was talking about most of the time. He could have written with much more detail and given better stories. There is a very brief mention of his faith. At some point in his life (he doesn't say when) he had some type of spiritual conversion and he mostly says it involved his following a "higher power." Then later in the book there is a one-sentence mention of his Christianity, but he never explains what that is. He makes an anti-religion statement, which I found odd since it contradicted his support of people having faith, but he never fleshes out what he actually believes so it's too generic to help anyone. He first hosted the hit Discovery Channel series Man vs. Wild, which became one of the most-watched shows on the planet, reaching an estimated 1.2 billion viewers. Since then he has gone on to host more extreme adventure TV shows across more global networks than anyone else in history, including Running Wild with Bear Grylls and the Emmy Award-nominated interactive Netflix show You vs. Wild.In Never Give Up, global adventurer, Chief Scout and TV presenter Bear Grylls chronicles his extraordinary life and career since stepping on to screen. The best part about this book is how Bear's voice really comes through. He has a pretty distinctive way of speaking, and having watched him on TV so many times, I definitely felt like I could hear him in my head as I read. His humble, charming, spirited, and positive personality came through each word. I think Bear does an admirable job detailing how his various TV shows came about and how he has been able to forge his own path in an industry that doesn't often allow for independence like that. Even when a venture wasn't a success, he appreciated the opportunity and learned from it for the next one. I think my favorite part of the writing was the incorporation of snippets of his relationships with his family and the people that he has worked with on different projects, as well as the real risks that they took while filming the shows. He has an authentic voice that comes through in his writing. With that said, my critiques are that the formatting was awful, making it difficult to read the eARC on Kindle. That has nothing to do with the content of the book but was distracting. I have seen the final copy and it does not have any of this and includes photos. Aga! Mulle jäi kaadritagustest väheks, oleksin tahtnud neist veel rohkem lugeda, eriti just neist hilisematest saadetest, mida ma ise olen näinud.

Defineteley inspiring and quite an amazing person but I think I enjoyed "Mud, Sweat and Tears" a little bit more. Maybe it was because I was reading them too much too close and got a bit tired in the end and it felt a little bit too repetitive. Because generally I'm happy to get the whole story. In his autobiography, the global adventurer, Chief Scout and TV presenter reflects on the extraordinary adventures that have shaped his life. Sharing personal stories from his toughest expeditions and capturing the exhilarating reality behind some of the hairiest survival missions, Bear takes readers up mountains and across oceans, through jungles and deserts. Immersing us in the behind-the-scenes action on his celebrated television shows, and with a rare insight into his family life, Bear recounts his most death-defying and life-defining moments. I adore Bear Grylls as a person. He always seems to incorporate his life lessons and realistic views of who he is and what he is doing. I appreciate this about him. I have seen episodes of his various shows and think that they are incredible and entertaining. This book offers a reflection on that process but then more so with the second half discussing other aspects of his life. Grylls has long said that mental toughness is one of the most important aspects of survival. The ‘Never Give Up’ manta is also the title of his autobiography.

Never Give Up is an autobiographical book by Bear Grylls that focuses on lessons he has learned throughout his various adventures. With short chapters, he chronicles many of his journeys in Man vs. Wild and Running Wild and shares what many of his experiences have taught him. He also shares examples of what continues to motivate him during the toughest times. Along the way, Bear opens up about his most personal challenges, discovers the true value of adventure, and embodies the enduring power of courage, kindness and a never give up spirit. I've been a fan of Bear Grylls for awhile, so I was very excited to be asked to review an early copy of his newest autobiography, Never Give Up. I haven't read his first memoir, but this one focuses on how he got started in TV, the adventures he's had over multiple shows, and what his life is like today, and since I know him best from his show Running Wild, I thought this seemed like a great place to start! Bear Grylls dives into what he has learned through work, family life, the Scouts, faith, running his own business, working with celebrities, being famous, and so much more in his autobiography. I like his mentality and his outlook on life. His personal motto is Never Give Up. His outlook is “Improvise, adapt, overcome…and above all, never give up.” In Never Give Up, global adventurer, Chief Scout and TV presenter Bear Grylls immerses readers in some truly remarkable adventures. As Bear shares personal stories from his toughest expeditions, this inspiring autobiography captures the exhilarating reality behind some of his hairiest survival missions.
