About this deal

Last but not least, it is also important for you to consider buying an affordable moth trap, or one that doesn’t cost a lot of money. One thing to remember is that just because a certain product is expensive, it doesn’t mean that it is more effective than a budget-friendly moth trap. Moreover, make sure to choose a reliable brand that is known to produce effective moth traps, even if they are slightly more expensive than other options. How to Use a Moth Trap? For you to get rid of moths in your closet will initially require you to assess whether they have laid eggs and there is a presence of clothes moth larvae. If there is no damage, you may be able to reduce the incidence of clothes moths over time by trapping the adult males and taking them out of the breeding cycle - this reduces the population of clothes moths and allows you to monitor the catch rate which should also be progressively reducing. If you have damage to clothing then you will likely have an infestation where the clothes moths have laid their eggs, the eggs have hatched and the emerging larvae are feasting on your investment pieces and / or precious home textiles. In this case, to get rid of clothes moths in your closet you will need to perform a much more intensive clear out, cleaning process and clothes moth treatment. In this case please read our article 10 Steps to Clothes Moth Control. Why do moths eat clothes? If you’re interested in splashing out a bit more, have a look through the rest of Paul’s range, or visit the other main suppliers: We are so sorry to read about your moth problem, we know how frustrating and distressing this can be. In this case, use of a clothes moth killer kit combined with thorough cleaning and treatment of your clothing and the closet itself / surrounding areas will be necessary - closet moth traps however remain part of the solution, to both deal with any residual adult clothes moths, and avoiding a repeat infestation, as well as for ongoing monitoring. Ongoing Monitoring of Moths

The moth you are targeting is not one of the Moths mentioned above. You may like to view our guide on identifying Clothes and Carpet Moths on the link below. It enables you to monitor the severity of the moth problem around your home as you can count the number of adult male moths that are caught over a period of time Really effective mothkiller - After suffering an invasion of moths in my kitchen, I used the products bought from MothKiller and within 3 weeks have almost eliminated them. No doubt I shall have to use one or two more treatments but it is the first time I feel they are under control. I am particularly impressed.Being inspired by a Trap which Katie Boyles from Warren Farm Nature reserve is trying out I decided must be easy enough to make from readily available items with only a limited amount of construction required. Found any good moths? Great! You are now officially a moth-er. From here you can progress to buying a basic moth trap with a low output actinic bulb which will atract more moths (and not annoy the neighbours). Whatever method you choose I guarantee you’ll be amazed by the moths that you find. For those with computer familiarity, settings can be changed. Plug into a computer and follow advanced instructions. Note that, unlike many species of moths, clothes and carpet moths are nocturnal and avoid bright light - they are more likely to be active at night time and when you are sleeping. MothPrevention® speak to customers every day about their clothes moth issues - clothes moths are a species that are ever increasing and that can cause significant damage to clothes, carpets and other home textiles.

If you are seeing moths flying around your home but not seeing any moths on the Traps it could be for the following reasons: If you require more information it can be found in this article How to Maximize the Effectiveness of Your Moth Traps. You may find many more moths are present in the coming weeks if the weather gets warmer. It is worth keeping the Traps in place as they will be active for 12 weeks after opening. The third edition of this notable field guide has been fully revised, updated and restructured. Moths are illustrated in their natural resting postures, and there are also paintings of different forms, underwings and other details to help with identification.A white sheet illuminated by a bright light provides a dazzling canvas that moths can’t resist. Hang the sheet over a washing line or fence and shine a bright torch on it. Or place it on the lawn with a bright lantern-style torch in the centre. Just make sure you have the sheet owner’s consent before you take it off the bed and drag it through the garden. The best clothes moth trap is designed to allow easy access for adult male moths and yet provides a darker ‘safe’ place for clothes moths, which hate light and being disturbed. Design is also important to customers - a discrete design with a flatter profile doesn’t advertise the presence of moths to guests and hangs more easily in the closet. The glue is important to ensure effective trapping. Lastly, and importantly, the best clothes moth trap has the most effective pheromone to attract the male moths - the cheap Chinese imitations absolutely fail on this critical aspect and that is why we have our pheromones specially engineered in Germany by scientists who really understand this deeply technical area (exclusive to MothPrevention). It's also why our moth traps are not cheap! But they work. Period. How long do clothes moths live? It's simple: if there are no adult male moths to impregnate the female clothes moths, that means no moth eggs can be laid. This needs to be achieved as it is the clothes moth larvae that hatch from the eggs which cause the wardrobe destruction that we all want to avoid, not the adult clothes moths themselves. HOW TO USE THE CLOTHING MOTH TRAP Combine dried, crushed, and powdered herbs. Combine the following in a bag that you can hang anywhere you keep clothes or food: lavender, bay leaves, cloves, rosemary, and thyme. Moths also hate the odors of these herbs. You can also dilute the essential oils of these herbs and spray them on your clothes and belongings or use a diffuser with one or more combinations of these oils. So weather patterns are key here - warmer States across the south of the US (think Florida across to Texas and then across to California) will be likely to see clothes moth activity all year round. In the northern states (Washington State across to New York), the cold winter temperatures delay pupation until the weather warms up in the spring - larvae will still be causing damage to clothing, particularly in centrally heated homes, but flying moths will only emerge with warmer temperatures.

There are two main species of common clothes moths - the webbing clothes moth (Tineola bisselliella) and the case-making clothes moth (Tinea pellionella). See our Identification Guides to see which species you may have.

Your Path to a Moth-Free Life

Keep your clothes and belongings stored in airtight containers. Use tightly sealed chests, plastic containers, sealed suitcases, or something similar to make sure moths can’t get inside and lay eggs. Don’t leave any materials like wool or suits exposed to the air — put them in zipped, airtight garment bags inside your sealed containers, especially when you don’t plan to wear them for a while. If you’re using a traditional trap or making a trap, consider the type of light you use. Brighter lights attract more moths but might annoy your neighbours! I find actinic light best. The design of the Skinner Trap means that you can access the catch without having to switch off the bulb. This is particularly useful if you are looking at your catch over the course of the evening, rather than leaving the trap all night and returning to it in the morning. Skinner Traps also have the added benefit of collapsing down, making them easier to store.
