A NOS is software capable of managing, maintaining, and providing services within a network. Additionally, a NOS can share files and applications, provide web services, provide authentication and authorization, control access to resources, administer users and computers, provide tools for configuration, maintain and provide resources, and perform other functions related to network resources. With that in mind, a NOS is crucial for managing computer network resources. If you have worked on Windows Server recently, you are familiar with the idea that logging in to any of your servers automatically invokes a large window on top of the desktop. This auto-launching program is Server Manager. As the name implies, it’s here to help you manage your server. However, in my experience, the majority of server administrators do not utilize Server Manager. Instead, they close it as fast as they can and curse at it under their breath because it’s been popping up and annoying them during every server login for the past 10 years. With these new and improved ways to manage the underlying components of your servers without having to log in to them directly, does this mean that our age-old friend RDP is going away? Certainly not! We will still have the need to access our servers directly sometimes, even if we go all-in with using the newer management tools. And I also expect that many administrators out there will continue using RDP and full desktop-based access for all management and monitoring of their servers simply because that is what they are more comfortable with, even if newer, more efficient ways now exist to accomplish the same tasks. Remote Desktop Connection Manager Using Server Manager on a single server to manage and monitor all of your servers is pretty handy, but what if we could take one more step out of that process? What if I told you that you didn’t have to log in to any of your servers, but could perform all of these tasks from the computer sitting on your desk?

Without a doubt, the most common place that roles and features get installed is right inside the graphical wizards available as soon as your operating system has been installed. By default, a tool called Server Manager launches automatically every time you log in to Windows Server 2022. We will take a closer look at Server Manager itself later in this chapter, but for our purposes here, we will simply use it as a launching platform to get to our wizard, which will guide us through the installation of our first role on this new server we are putting together. Merriam-Webster defines a network as “ a group of people or organizations that are closely linked and that work with each other.” Furthermore, from the same dictionary, networking is defined as the “ exchange of information or services among individuals, groups or institutions.” These definitions will serve as a simple, clear, and concrete way to define computer networks next. P2P network architecture refers to a network model where hosts or computers are equally privileged in network participation. Each host may act as a client or server depending on the request and response paradigm. But, of course, that depends on whether it requests or provides services in that network. It all began many years ago when sharing resources became necessary. As time went by and demand increased, the development and advancement of computer network technologies also occurred. Therefore, the need to connect and interconnect computers within computer networks and among more geographic locations created a demand for well-defined terms and concepts to describe computer networks. Because of that, concepts such as computer network types, computer network topologies, computer network architectures, and computer network components were born. As such, a computer network represented one of humanity’s most significant inventions in communication. That said, simply think about the internet, and you will immediately understand how great of a benefit a computer network is to society. More computers were connected to computer networks, and geographical distances were diminished in communication. Therefore, it created a need for well-defined terms and concepts to describe computer networking. Because of that, different types of computer networks, network topologies, architectures, and components have emerged. New servers created from a sysprepped image file always receive a new hostname when they boot. This often confuses admins who might have named their master server something such as MASTER. After booting your new servers, you can expect to see randomized names on your new servers, and you will have to rename them according to their new duties in life.

There are many other benefits associated with Windows Server 2022, but today, our main focus is the recommended Books to Master the Windows Server 2022 Administration. These should help you navigate easily when managing the Windows Server 2022 within your infrastructure.

request access to resources, and ______are responsible for providing resources and managing access to those resources. To give out performance, the CPU depends on RAM. Let’s learn about that in the next section. Whether new to the server world or working to keep your existing skills sharp, this book aims to be referenced on a regular basis instead of gathering dust on your shelf. This book covers a range of remote access technologies, and even teaches management of PKI and certificates. You will be empowered to virtualize your datacenter with Hyper-V, and deploy your own Remote Desktop Services "farm". Learn about Server Core, built-in redundancy, and explore troubleshooting skills. All this on top of chapters about core infrastructure technologies such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy. What you will learn As with many executables that you run from Command Prompt, there are a variety of optional switches that you can tag onto the end of your command to make it do specific tasks. From your Command Prompt window, if you simply run the sysprep.exe command, you will see a graphical interface for Sysprep, where you can choose between the available options, as shown in Figure 2.37:And now, let’s cover these steps in a little more detail. Installing Windows Server 2022 onto a new server The book begins by introducing computer networking and Windows Server concepts, gradually moving towards Windows Server 2022. With the help of step-by-step instructions and easy-to-understand graphics, you’ll become well versed with the roles, features, and functionalities of Windows Server 2022. Topics such as the installation process, upgrades, post-installation tasks, and initial server configuration are covered in detail. As you make progress, you’ll explore roles, features, and role services such as Active Directory, DNS, Hyper-V, remote access, storage, and printers, among others.
