About this deal

Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). The Longmorn Distillery Company was founded in 1893 by John Duff, Charles Shirres and George Thomson. Duff was a former manager of the Glendronach Distillery and the Bon Accord Distillery in Aberdeen, and was the founder of the Glenlossie Distillery, as well as being involved with unsuccessful distilleries in Cape Town and the USA. [1] We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. For a long time, Longmorn has been a popular component for whisky blenders. Longmorn uses water from local springs and gets the barley from Moray, peat from nearby sources. They used to get the power for the entire distillery from a large water wheel, which is still located in the distillery, no longer in use though. Founded in 1893, Longmorn has had many owners: The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. in 1970, Chivas Brothers in 1978 and 2001 it was acquired by the French Pernod Ricard Group.

It was not an ideal time to build two new plants and in 1899 he was forced to sell to James Grant.Although Duff’s business was not sound, his whisky was and by the start of the 20th century Longmorn was a prize malt, used in a variety of blends including VAT 69 and Dewar’s. In 1920, the young Masataka Taketsuru, one of the fathers of Japanese whisky and founder of Nikka, spent a short period working in the distillery. The stills at Nikka’s two distilleries are said to be modelled on Longmorn’s. You are responsible for all activities through your account. Trevor explained that it is bottled at 23 Year Old as this is the perfect age for a Longmorn to be matured and bottled, and boy was he right.

Longmorn 16 year old single malt whisky was released to replace their 15 year old as part of the relaunch of Longmorn distillery. The discontinued 15YO by the way, is a high rated single malt in Whisky Connosr community – with an average of 91 points it used to be even in the top 10 (16th at the moment). The reputation of the 15YO really helps Longmorn’s desire to be a super premium single malt maker brand. My only taste of Longmorn before this was a bottling by Murray McDavid, which was brilliant. The nose is lovely and mild on first impression, with lots of granny smith apple and butter notes developing at first, plus some honey after sitting in the glass over time. A few drops of water do much to enhance the fruit and also bring forward floral, perfume notes. It’s a surprise on the palate as things take a sharp 90-degree turn with big notes of spice and wood cancelling out most of the upfront sweetness, setting up a long, lingering combination of oats and wood on the finish. Nothing offensive or foul here, but it certainly pales in comparison to the engaging nose. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect.

The former 16-year-old is being replaced by a ‘reinterpreted’ new 16-year-old single malt created using a ‘higher proportion’ offirst-fill American oak casks, alongside whisky matured in ex-Sherry casks and European oak casks. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. Longmorn Distillery started production in December 1894. Three years later John Duff built the Benriach Distillery next to Longmorn, but both were affected by the collapse of wholesale buyers Pattison, Elder and Co. in 1898. Duff was ruined by the collapse, and Longmorn Distilleries Company Ltd. passed through a variety of ownerships. At this price, we are really targeting people who are looking for luxurious single malts. We wanted to create the pinnacle with the 23-year-old while still reflecting our house style, and we believe we have created a whisky that will be enjoyed by connoisseurs.’ On a lovely sunny, yet chilly Monday lunchtime in London a gathering of a few select whisky journalists gathered to have a luscious lunch in Claridges to celebrate the launch of a new range of Longmorn single malt whisky, a Speyside classic.

Stunning, beautiful, dry, fruity, caramel with heavy vanilla nose and palate. The palate was vibrant, juicy, mature, green apples, silky and all round brilliant with a super-long white peppery finish. The distillery first launched a 15-year-old single malt in 1993, but this was replaced by the 16-year-old in 2007.
