Village feature on Little London, nr Basingstoke, Berkshire. photographer byline Darren Pepe. (Image: Darren Pepe / HampshireLive) In September they launched the Little London estate assembly, a public event which encouraged residents to “be part of deciding what we need to demand from those in power”. He pledged his support, emerging “surprised, disappointed and frustrated that people were living in these conditions in 2023. It certainly didn’t feel like a healthy environment for adults to be living in, let alone a baby.”

The village has grown organically from a few houses, being effectively one street with no social centre. Current local planning policy has successfully prevented any inappropriate development of additional housing in the area. Current population is of only a few hundred. It is a desirable location, resulting in upper quartile house prices typical of rural Hampshire. The village has one Pub, The Plough, which maintains a very traditional 'English Pub' environment. Interestingly, the village near Basingstoke is not the only Little London in the country, and indeed not even the only one in Hampshire. Near Andover, there is a tiny hamlet also called Little London which is made up of no more than a handful of houses and a road. The church is part of the Deanery of Basingstoke and the Diocese of Winchester. It is linked to the parish of Bramley. Being a true Londoner means that you dream of LONDON during your sleep all the time and having some sudden scenes of LONDON in mind-a street, a house or maybe a landmark of the city...th Most residents are suffering but many are frightened to raise their voices “in case they say anything the landlord can use against them”, says McBride. “The fear factor is real. They can be issued with a section 21 [no-fault eviction notice]. Families get split up because there’s no council houses.”

Recently the group managed to raise the money to stop a family on the estate from being evicted after falling into rent arrears, and are now taking their fight to the landlords. Only a few hundred people live there and it is true to say that the area, which is filled with detached houses and surrounded by typically-stunning Hampshire countryside, could perhaps not be further away from its namesake in terms of appearance and way of life. Being a true Londoner is being true to where you come from and being true to other parts of London wheather it be north, south , east or west. There are many theories online as to why places are named Little London, with some speculating that the answer is linked to the Great Plague in 1665.

The most common property types available to rent in Little London, LS7 are 2 bedroom flats and 2 bedroom apartments. Kennedy says she will support the residents every step of the way: “The landlords on Little London need to wake up and recognise that no longer will their tenants quietly accept appalling standards, feeling powerless and alone to change things. Those days are over. People have learned the power they have when they come together.” Studiul intensiv al Limbii engleze, certificat prin examenele Cambridge, le facilitează elevilor performanța academică în orice sistem de învățământ internațional; The amazing Biscuiteers boutique in Notting Hill is one of the best places to while away an afternoon. nationaltheatre.org.uk GETTING CRAFTY: Tate Britain’s Free Weekend event, the BP Family Festival: Close Encounters of the Art Kind A world away from the fast-paced life of its capital city namesake, Little London is a tiny village nestled in the Hampshire countryside. From a layman’s point of view, it’s difficult to see how those buildings are ever going to be sustainably safe, dry and warm.” We don’t know how long Polyclitus might have stayed in Britain, perhaps through the winter and up to the start of the sailing season of 61 or 62, but surely not long enough to commission building projects using Little London CBM across central southern Britain. A more likely explanation is that he took over an already functioning tilery that had been established earlier, in the 50s, with others such as at Minety in Wiltshire, to provide material for the construction of the first public buildings, especially bathhouses, for the major towns and for the infrastructure of the cursus publicus (the state-managed courier system under the Roman Empire), and its stopping points, namely the mansiones and mutationes of this imperial postal system. Where all the skilled tile-makers and potters were found to resource these projects remains a fascinating question.
