When we began this read, I thought it would be a good old-fashioned domestic noir novel. But it blew my expectations out of the water. My mind thought of dozens of scenarios, but not a single one I thought of was THAT twist! I loved it! I was debating what rating to give this book and ended up choosing 3.5 stars. The book gets off to a good start but the main character got on my nerves more and more as the book progressed which made me lose interest for awhile. The ending was not entirely what I expected which is always a good thing when reading these type of stories. By the time I finished the book I felt there were more positive things about the story than negative.

It's the evening drive home from work, a route Joe Lynch has taken a hundred times with his young son. But when he unexpectedly sees his wife's car ahead of them, he decides to follow her - and ends up witnessing her secret rendezvous with another man. The encounter will tear two families apart and leave an innocent man set up to take the fall for a murder. It's amazing how just one moment can change your life. In this case Joe Lynch is driving home from work with his son when he spots his wife. He proceeds to follow her and soon sees her meeting up with another man. And this is when everything starts to unravel for Joe. So many lies. Who can he trust? So what the reader is left with from that initial opening is having to wade through all the lies upon lies that pile up for the rest of the book. I read this one as a buddy read with Amanda over @ Devouring Books and we were both engaged as it got going but somewhere in the middle this one started to fizzle out a bit. So while I hate to say it yet again I think this is another title that just went on a bit too long in the middle focusing on one big lie and had it moved forward a bit faster it would have maintained my attention a lot better.

Suddenly finding himself without an inhaler and with a child who desperately needs one, Joe reluctantly flees the parking garage, leaving Ben still unconscious on the pavement. But… it didn’t quite work out as expected. Maybe if this book had been released ten years ago, maybe even five, it would have had more relevance. But in the face of the #Me Too movement, I just couldn’t get behind this story-line. I'd like to think we've come further than this... but sadly...maybe we haven't...yet!! This is pretty much the point at which most adults would be saying, “Mkay… this doesn’t look good… Normal adults don’t meet people at hotels for non-nefarious purposes… We are gonna go ahead and abort this mission.” From the moment I started this book, I was looking forward to an unexpected plot turn. I mean, it had been promised right on the cover, with a teaser line penned by the prolific Lee Child that read, “Compelling and hypotonic…with a twist I guarantee you won’t see coming.” The extent of Ryan’s disturbing hunting behavior is also made clear in The Catch book ending. Prior to his demise, he explained in his narrative that he pre-dug graves on the moors and filled them with a lilo to keep the shape so they were ready for his victims. He also had night-vision goggles and drugs ready for use too and it was made clear that Abbie was part of his cover, not the end of his desire to carry on killing. How could Channel 5’s The Catch ending differ?

All in all Lies has an interesting premise, but I could never fully buy into the characters or the events of the novel. From T.M. Right when I thought I had figured this one out, a big twist comes along that wasn't expected at all and it left me speechless. It was a big surprise. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. It is not a predictable read and I thought it was mind blowing and AMAZING! This one is tied in first place in my favorite shelf for this year. Crazy good! second phone call that could change your life. No consequences, no questions asked, no-one will ever knowI couldn't begin to imagine being in Sarah's position but I am fully aware of many situations out there involving bosses and the upper echelon that use their power to gain advantage over vulnerable people. Sexual predators are evil and I fully sympathised with Sarah, understanding her constant frustration and fear of losing her job.

Wow! This was a thrilling read, it literally called to me whenever I put it down. The characters were perfectly at ease in their skins, played their parts to perfection with a deftly constructed narrative. The plot itself presents a darker side of life, whilst demonstrating the mundane alongside it. The reader is taken on a whirlwind of twists and turns making it a truly tense and compelling read. Just brilliant, can't recommend it enough! In the business world, Ben can be ruthless. He also carries that take-no-prisoners approach into his love life. Rules? What rules? Nothing will stand in his way! A surprise visit to Joe's wife will turn his world upside down. Has Joe just caught his wife in an affair with Ben, one of the wealthiest, successful business men he knows? Unfortunately, it’s not a very evenly matched fight and, when the much larger Joe tries to push the smaller Ben away, Ben falls and hits his head.

I figured out rather early on what was really going on, which turned this into a boring reading experience. I kept on reading in the hopes that I was wrong but sadly discovered that I was right. I don't have much to say about this book--it was a bit of a frustrating reading experience. There are some elements of cheesiness that I just couldn’t get past. While I felt for Joe, I was also super-frustrated by his inability to see what was happening right before his eyes. If you’ve yet to read T.M. Logan’s The Catch book then you might well be a little surprised by the changes that have reportedly been made to the Collier family and their home in the gripping Channel 5 show. In the Channel 5 drama which starts on January 25, as per RadioTimes.com, the setting is now the coast of the South West of England where Ed is a fisherman. When Joe Lynch stumbles across his wife driving into a hotel carpark while she's supposed to be at work, he's intrigued enough to follow her in. He knows he should intervene but when it turns violent, Joe has to make a decision about his actions. Then it all starts to go wrong... Creepy, creepy, creepy, but a winner if you like thrillers.' * Woman's Way magazine * If you’re eager to dive into The Catch whether you’ve read T.M. Logan's 2020 book or not then the place to head is Channel 5. The drama is split into 4 episodes, each an hour long, and airs every Wednesday at 9pm on Channel 5 starting from January 25, with episodes made available to stream afterwards on My5. For me, this book was a chore to read, one that I struggled through and pushed myself to finish, not because it was a difficult read or anything like that (in fact, I found the writing on this one a bit too simplistic), but rather, I felt that the story never really took off. The premise had potential, as there aren’t too many books out there nowadays that incorporate modern technology (in the form of smartphones, tablets, laptops) and social media (i.e. Facebook) into a crime thriller – the technology in this case was front and center and in some instances, even became one of the focal “characters” in the story. Unfortunately, the execution didn’t really work for me – I felt that the plot was a bit all over the place (especially in the second half of the book), the characters were one-dimensional and written in a way that made all of them unlikable (with the exception of the kid William), and too many elements of the story just seemed implausible. Throughout most of the story, there just seemed to be way too much “explaining” going on by various characters, especially as it related to aspects of technology and social media, things that I felt were common sense enough in this day and age that such thorough explanations felt unnecessary. Parts of the story were also bogged down by what I felt were details that didn’t matter (for example, one of the characters taking out their smart phone, swiping over to an app, opening file manager, going through each folder, pulling up a file, closing it out, etc.) – it felt tedious, and for me, detracted from the telling of the main story.

What To Read Next

This was a mediocre thriller for me. I was entertained and would be interested to see what T.M Logan has up his sleeve next. I think this is going to be a hot contender for many to talk about! :) Tim’s thrillers have sold more than two million copies in the UK and are published in translation in 22 other countries including Italy, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, France, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Greece, South Korea, Romania and the Netherlands. It was strictly a one time deal, a once in a lifetime offer. A deal that might change her life. A deal that would almost certainly change someone elses.
