About this deal

The Georgia Series combines the worlds of Grant County and Will Trent. Sara Linton has moved from Heartsdale to the big city and encounters Faith Mitchell–and her partner Will Trent–in the hospital. This series presents the best of two worlds for Slaughter fans. Books in the Georgia series include Fallen, Broken, and Undone. Slaughter’s Thriller Recipe: Other books in the series continue to follow crimes investigated by Linton, Tolliver and Adams. They include Kisscut, A Faint Cold Fear, Indelible, Faithless, and Beyond Reach. Slaughter has commented that Kisscut was the hardest book she’s ever written because of the darkness of the subject matter. The Will Trent Series: False Witness is an intense, dark and gritty read that won't be for everyone. There were times I doubted that it was for me. And it is overly long, with a fair bit of repetition which, really, wasn't necessary. It was like the author was taking up a sledgehammer to ram home certain points. Almost all of the side characters in Emily’s narrative were awful, hideous human beings, which made her narrative particularly difficult to read.

THE AUTHOR: Karin Slaughter is one of the world’s most popular and acclaimed storytellers. Published in 120 countries with more than 35 million copies sold across the globe, her eighteen novels include the Grant County and Will Trent books, as well as the Edgar-nominated Cop Town and the instant New York Times bestselling novels Pretty Girls and The Good Daughter. Slaughter is the founder of the Save the Libraries project—a nonprofit organization established to support libraries and library programing.Trent is a man with scars, and his long-term romantic relationship with Angie Polaski is flawed. Still, he’s a good agent, and so is his partner, Faith, who hated him until she was forced to work with him. Triptych, the first book in the series, features a woman-killer who leaves his calling-card by mutilating his victims in a specific way. Triptych’s characters are complex and flawed, and Slaughter’s unflinching tale of gore can be difficult to get through. Q: As in most of your books, “False Witness” focuses on contemporary social issues and women who survive hardships through their courage and wits. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood no one should have to endure … a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and ultimately destroyed by a brutal act of violence. As the novel progresses in the multiple layers from both 1982 and the present day start to connect, the tempo increases, there’s plenty of action as well as tension and several good twists and turns. The ending is good too, it’s plausible and nicely set up for book number three and I’d like to see how that plays out. As her treating doctor, Sara was the only one who heard Danielle Cooper’s claim that she was raped, and her plea to please stop him. All the evidence pointed to Tommy McAllister, med student at Emory and son of two wealthy doctors, a couple who use their influence to engage effective representation to save their son’s reputation. After all, they’ve done it before.

I love how Karin Slaughter writes sisters. Whether it’s Charlotte and Samantha in The Good Daughter or Sara and Tessa in the Grant County series, she just captures dueling personalities so well. Callie and Leigh are no exception here. Going through traumatic events links people together in a way that’s hard to explain to anyone on the outside and leaves them with complicated feelings towards one another. But like any good sisters, no matter how much they fight with each other, there’s no doubt they will also kill for one another.

And now for the COVID angle. The talk of masks and hand sanitizer didn’t really bother me until towards the end, when it seemed to be brought up in every chapter. Nothing wrong with that, except that some of the characters initially seemed extremely careful, and then forgot to wear their masks and wash their hands when it was convenient for them to do so. 😷 However, the author’s note is truly an informative delight as Slaughter describes what brought her to include COVID in the story. A: I was 26 and found an agent who shopped my (historical fiction) book, but nobody wanted it, fortunately. I said to myself, “I guess that’s it.” But the agent called and said, “What are you going to do next?’ So I wrote a thriller that turned out to be “Blindsighted.” It was easy to write because I’d found my voice, and 30 countries bought the rights to it right off the bat. I had a three-book deal just before I turned 30. The training wheels were off. Now, at the end of the day, I write big commercial fiction. If she can't get him acquitted, she'll lose much more than the case. The only person who can help her is her younger, estranged sister Callie, the last person Leigh would ever want to ask for help. But suddenly she has no choice... but i can see why people didn't enjoy this plot as much. although the crime in this story is insidious as one would expect from a karin slaughter book, it's also extremely personal to the characters. which means a lot of introspection is happening for them, and it felt like the suspense came later in the story consequently. I have made no secret that Will is one of my favorite male characters with his 6'3" height, lean body, three-piece suits, dyslexia, and as the proud owner of Betty (his Chihuahua dog).
