About this deal

When a catastrophic event dismantles the Brightons’ world, Riley must stand in the spotlight for the first time in her life, with questions about her family that challenge her memory, identity, and loyalty. Restless and heartbroken, she sets off across the globe with the person she least expects, to seek truths about those she thought she knew best—herself included. I gave this book 1 star because I finished it and the second star because the author obviously put a lot of effort into writing this book. Had I stopped reading when I wanted to I would have given this book only one star but I was able to persevere. Evocatively-written and structured like fragments, Kaleidoscope shows what it means to look at family from all angles.” Since Kaleidoscope imports goods from India, it was interesting to learn a bit about Indian colonial history and Indian traditional handcrafts. In an attempt to transport readers to several places, Wong includes all the (food/travel) descriptions but it often felt overdetailed, distracting me from the reading. Having said that, it was delightful to be given a piece of NYC and the book made me want to travel immediately. When tragedy strikes, Riley is left reeling. Her parents offer no comfort, and Riley is drowning in guilt. As her relationship with her parents' sours, Riley decides on a ‘healing’ journey.

Danielle Fernandes Dominique Schuelein-Steel is an American writer, best known for her romance novels. Kaleidoscope is an ode to the fierce and complicated bond between sisters, to unexpected love, to the pleasures of travel and food and unclaimed afternoons. It traces the way loss can change the shape of a life, honoring the experience of profound grief while, miraculously, reminding us of the beauty to be found in surviving. Intricate, gorgeously written, deeply moving — I loved this book.” I’ve read quite a few short story collections, and I tend to have a hard time connecting with them. That was absolutely not the case with this brilliant collection. Each story was different but, in a strange way, they all felt connected somehow. I knew it wasn’t a fluid story, yet it oddly felt like it was. I loved the fact that we never discover the narrators name, a nod to Daphne du Maurier’s “Rebecca” which I greatly love! Then there’s the recurrence of the name “James,” which I felt added such soul and heart to the book as a whole. Like Rebecca, James, though he’s different in every story and isn’t the main character, felt like the center of everything. Cecily Wong describes emotion like a poet. Her words have form and texture. Her broken characters are true in the way they mend, tear, fix again, and finally find a way to live broken.

Success!

The characters are a bunch of whiny, entitled children and not just the young adults either. The parents take the cake but not until the end at least. Alexandra is extremely sweet, and could be anybody's small sister. She is the voice of reason among them and the only one who understands Hillary's pain and Megan's love for her father. She has an awful husband but gets through everything with her pride still intact and finds the love of her sisters again. Though his brand of realist Northern drama fell out of favour in the 1980s, John Finch’s contribution to British television drama was enormous. His autobiography, written in the final years of his life, is a testament to a life well lived, revealing a sensitive and accomplished writer who more than fulfilled his dream.

The book does an absolute justice to its title- Kaleidoscope, things change with the blink of an eye. Danielle Steele once again manages to take her readers by surprise. The book is full of unexpected twists and turns which leaves the readers breathless gasping for more... Steel's writing in Kaleidoscope is undeniably strong, showcasing her ability to create suspense and maintain a sense of intrigue throughout the novel. Her skillful storytelling keeps readers engaged, as they become invested in the characters' lives and yearn for resolution. The book's television adaptation, starring the talented Jaclyn Smith, further solidifies its appeal, bringing the story to life on screen. At what point, she asks herself, is a person entitled to feel badly for themselves? Who gets to judge? What are the criteria for comparing heartbreak?”KALEIDOSCOPE is a moving tale about finding yourself again and reconciliation. Regardless of some complaints, this family drama is worthy a journey.
