From Alex T. Smith, bestselling author of the Claude series, comes How Winston Delivered Christmas – the irresistible story of the brave little mouse who sets out on an adventure on Christmas Eve . Featuring beautiful colour artwork from the author and Christmassy activities to make-and-do throughout, t his irresistibly gorgeous book is sure to become a festive family tradition that will be enjoyed year after year.

I'm aware I'm not the target audience for this book so haven't been harsh about the plot or characters (both of which are fairly simplistic). From Alex T. Smith, bestselling author of the Claude series, comes How Winston Came Home for Christmas – the festive sequel to the much-loved How Winston Delivered Christmas. Winston the mouse is on a Very Important Mission. On Christmas Eve, he finds a letter that has gotten lost on its way to Father Christmas – so, with no time to lose, he sets out to deliver it himself in time for Christmas Day! He has a lot of Very Exciting Adventures on his Very Important Mission and makes some wonderful friends along the way. The advent calendar chapters. There are 25 chapters, which means children can read one a day in December. I've never seen anything like that before, and I thought it was really smart and sweet. I didn't read it like that but, especially for children, that's a lovely option. I don't know if the set-up with 24 chapters really works though. It would be too hard to wait until the next day to read the rest of the story! I would read the whole thing in one sitting, or maybe read part on Christmas Eve and part on Christmas Day. There is no way I could wait the entire month, hearing the story in little pieces. Every chapter ends on a cliff-hanger, and it makes the reader want to keep reading. You know, I'd like to make the pet robin today because the pet robin isn't a Christmas thing one single bit.

I'd give it to Santa. I'd look for a red light in the sky. So I'd have a ladder, and I'd climb up onto a building, and if I saw a helicopter I'd grab onto it. I'd give the letter to Santa Claus. Join Winston the mouse as he sets out on another irresistible Christmas adventure! A Christmas mystery written in 24-and-a-half-chapters – one to read every day of December, each chapter includes it's very own festive activity for all the family to enjoy together.

I got the idea when I was helping my niece and nephews write their letters to Father Christmas and I wondered (with a shiver) what would happen if one of the letters got waylaid? Hopefully there would be some kind of person (or in this case a mouse) to deliver it for us. And what adventures would they have? How Winston Delivered Christmas has not been given my daughter’s seal of approval as I will be wrapping it up and giving it to her on December 1st but I have absolutely no doubt that she will enjoy reading the book as much as I do 🙂 How Winston Delivered Christmas is a delightful book written in 24 and a half chapters that are designed to be read, one a day, from the 1st to 24th December, with the half chapter at the end to be read on Christmas Day. I've always loved winter. All those frosty mornings and getting cosy after being outside in the cold. And when December arrives Christmas magic is in the air! This is the perfect book to read together as a family during Christmas, and do some of the activities together!

Written in twenty-four-and-a-half chapters, one to enjoy each day in the lead up to christmas, each chapter includes it’s very own festive activity for all the family to enjoy together – including writing a letter to Father Christmas, making mince pies, designing your very own Christmas cards, making presents, creating decorations, and so much more!

These would be such fun activities to do together with the whole family during the holiday season! He has a lot of Very Exciting Adventures on his Very Important Mission and makes some wonderful friends along the way. I loved the story! Winston is so adorable and sweet. He's very brave and spunky, and I loved all the quirky characters that he meets. The plot really moves along with different twists and turns, and lots of descriptions of beautiful holiday decorations and food and toys that Winston gazes at longingly. Alex has captured all the sights and smells of Christmas with the most delicious descriptions and sumptuous illustrations, the story is a feast for all senses. The dolls house, which plays an important role in the story, is absolutely beautiful and the gingerbread castle in the bakery is awesome but my favourite illustration shows Winston in the stable with Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.
