The DMP-A6 Master Edition is equipped with a third-generation XMOS 316 USB interface ensuring perfect reception and decoding of the USB audio stream. The DMP-A6 is equipped with a third-generation XMOS 316 USB interface ensuring perfect reception and decoding of the USB audio stream. This supports audio streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD up to DSD512 and MQA. For optical ports (Coaxial and Toslink), they support DSD 64 (DoP) and PCM 192 24Bit. The Cambridge streamer is wonderfully even across the range as well, delivering hard-hitting bass with a light-stepping, twinkling treble – all of which helps convey a tune with tight timing and provide a sound that is dynamically entertaining. The basic platform that underpins most Zidoo devices is more than up to the job of being a streamer so it should not be too much of a surprise to find that the Eversolo is similar to the Alpha players in terms of its core architecture. The platform is built around an ARM Cortex A55 processor and uses a customised Android 11 interface as the basic operating system. This is capable of reading content over a network or from an internal hard drive bay that supports drives up to two terabytes. No drive is supplied as standard in this instance. Neither am I done with the comparisons to the Neo Stream. I maintain that iFi has the best affordable MQA decoding in the industry but the DMP-A6 runs it very close which makes it a formidable option for Tidal Connect. There’s a certain irony that, just as MQA’s future is looking uncertain, hardware is hitting the market that manages to overcome some of my earlier reservations about how it sounds but, whatever happens, the DMP-A6 has you usefully covered in this regard.There is no headphone output with this A6, not really an issue for me as the analogue or digital output can very easily go into a headphone amplifier, like a Mojo2 for example. I note the Eversolo DACs have headphone outputs though. Thoughts It is also compatible with third-party applications such as; Apple music, Spotify, Deezer, Napster, KKbox. it is equally adept with displaying intimacy so that the very human scale of the recording is retained. I side-loaded smart tube and now can get add free music videos on screen, can cast to phone and amazingly mirror to tv. It's not perfect though. The Eversolo is dependent on TuneIn Radio for internet radio and this has limitations, especially when it is called upon to access BBC content. AirPlay can be used to send the BBC Sounds App to the DMP-A6 but there’s no Cast for Android users (although there is aptX Bluetooth as a quasi-acceptable substitute). The absence of the simple but useful Bluetooth remote handsets that the Zidoo players come with is also a slight annoyance. It’s not that the Eversolo can’t be used without it but it reduces the convenience factor slightly.

No matter how we play songs and from whatever source, the Eversolo takes it all in its stride. It’s a very taut, punchy sound. The streamer delivers music with solid, clear notes and good space around instruments – it’s an upfront presentation that sounds as efficient as it is to use. We find this approach isn’t aggressive or hard in any way at either side of the frequency range – it just wants to be noticed. The biggest differences with the S2s are heard in the bass, where the new version is so much more precise and controlled; these speakers are cleaner, more insightful and have notably more punch than their forebears. The high-definition 6" LCD touch screen perfectly integrated into the aluminum chassis of the DMP-A6 allows practical and ergonomic use. The user experience is intended to be as intuitive as possible. Thus, it is possible to access all player options and information through this beautiful interface.
