About this deal

Going into this, I had only really tried Warburtons crumpets before. They are popular for a reason, but honestly, I now prefer Aldi’s. Trying to get into the spirit of Christmas, I thought a Christmas tree crumpet would be a nice way to end the tasting. It ended up being by far the worst.

Make a menu- you can write a menu of all the tasty treats you are planning to serve. My kids like it as it makes them feel like they’re in a resturant and makes it feel extra special.

Spooky Ghost Crumpets

No chance of crispiness, it looked slimmer in comparison to its rivals and despite looking like a Christmas tree, it did not make me feel happy. More time was spent on the shape than anything else because it ended up being chewy, sad and disappointing. Last year we kept things fairly simple with crumpets, pain au chocolates, hot chocolates and sugar free jelly with fruit and cream. This year I am planning a far more extravagant affair- so watch this space!

I tried crumpets from Aldi, Waitrose, M&S and Morrison’s. I had assumed beforehand that the scores would all be relatively similar, it's quite hard to mess up a crumpet. Some people choose to host theirs on Christmas Eve, or maybe you could host one if you have one of your children’s birthday in December. What day you hold it on is completely up to you! Our elf ‘Buddy’ on the morning of the breakfast will have an invitation for the children to attend their North Pole Breakfast, and the table will already be laid by Buddy, whilst I get busy in the kitchen. The crispiness and fluffiness was a killer combination, I’m not quite sure whether the pictures gave it enough justice. Both Waitrose and M&S put up respectable fights in second and third place, the less said about Morrisons the better.
