About this deal

Our Carbon Fibre Epoxy Repair Kits are a useful set of tools and materials to complete any carbon fibre repair. We have two variations of these kits.

x 150mm top quality carbon fibre cloth. 1k 90gsm (this means it is thin, lightweight, not bulky and obtrusive, yet strong and has a nice tightly woven pattern). The kit includes all of the necessary materials and equipment to repair a carbon fibre fishing pole and requires only competent practical skills and a couple of hours of your time to repair your broken or fractured fishing pole or rod so that it is as strong as it was before the damage occurred. Wet lay-up resins used in hand layup re-soften (Glass Transition Temperature Tg) at a lower temperature – 80 Degrees Celsius.

Ideally, the repaired area should match the mechanical and thermal properties of the original structure. Next, slide the good tube (wrapped with wet carbon) inside the broken tube, aiming to leave the repair bandage positioned correctly underneath the damaged area of the pole. Next, wrap some carbon fibre, wetting it with resin as you go, around the outside of the good pole. Wrap at least twice round, maybe 3 times round, so that when it is slid inside the broken tube it will be a snug fit. Option 2:If the part is thin and flimsy, has hollow areas or many fixings meaning autoclaving a mould tool repair section from a non-damaged similar or mirror area in carbon is not possible, then we can manufacture small epoxy putty or high TG wet laminated fibreglass or Carbon Fibre mould tools off mirrored areas of the part. With bold coloured laminates such as carbon fibre, the underlying colour of the fabric may still show through the pigmented resin, especially with thinner layers of resin over the underlying laminate.

Wrap the rod with the special 90g ProFinish plain weave carbon fibre fabric, applying additional resin as you go. Despite the strength and durability of carbon fibre fishing poles and fishing rods, fractures or complete breaks in the pole do happen from time to time. Damage is negligible in terms of the structural implications, then a cosmetic repair with an appropriate epoxy repair resin can be made.A carbon fibre repair kit can be a helpful tool for fixing damaged carbon fibre components. However, it is important to be familiar with the material and the repair process before attempting to fix anything. A simple and very effective post-cure cycle with the IN2 Infusion Resin (or EL2 Epoxy Laminating Resin) is as follows: As with many post-cure cycles for resins, the post-cure cycle for our EL2 and IN2 Epoxy Resins is not too sensitive and a range of different post-cure cycles will produce good results, specifically improved mechanical performance and elevated HDT/operating temperature. Post-curing parts that will be used at or exposed to elevated operating temperatures (such as vehicle bonnets/hoods in direct sunlight, engine-bay parts, car interior parts etc.) is strongly recommended to prevent distortion of the parts when they are put into service and experience these higher temperatures. Mix the resin and apply the layers of cloth, this is a similar process to fibreglass work (or paper-mache!)

Select another section of pole that fits comfortably inside the broken pole, possibly not the next pole down ensuring that there is at least a 0.5mm – 1mm gap between the pole you select and the inside of the broken pole when you put the other section inside the broken pole. Once cured, twist the good pole to remove it from inside the repaired pole. The pole should come out from inside the shrink tape. Next, remove the shrink tape from the inside surface of the repaired pole. Option 5:Popular for diffusers and splitters, for cosmetic repairs, where no moulds exist, we can wet lay epoxy repairing the rear of the part, carefully grinding away the surface ply and set in a new piece of low temperature cure pre-preg to match the weave. We would then Autoclave cure, sand and polish or sand and re-clear coat to blend in the repair to a factory finish. Ducatti desmosdici crash damaged rear hugger, front mudguard and instrument binnacle/ inner nose fairing. This is a performance, economical and overall feasibility decision. Carbon fibre parts are expensive, so a repair is often preferable if the original properties of that part can be matched in the repair. This is the resin that is used in our Carbon Fibre Rapid Repair kit. If you're wanting to make your own larger version of one of our kits then this is the resin you need. There are several Carbon Fibre repair route options open to us depending on what is available and what you require: aff ordable : kits are significantly more affordable than hiring a professional to repair carbon fibre damage . Although we don't market this kit for repairing carbon fibre bike frames, there are a lot of similarities between the materials and process needed to repair a carbon fishing pole and those needed to repair a carbon bike frame and so there are a number of circumstances where customers might decide to use this kit to repair a bike frame. Given the potentially safety critical nature of repairing a bike frame, it's important to point out that whilst the materials in the kit might be appropriate for a bike frame repair, it would be the responsibility of the person doing the repair to assess the suitability of such a repair and to carry it our it competently.
