About this deal

The bag’s 600-fill DownTek water-repellent down gives it a 30-degree rating when paired with an insulated sleeping pad. In our experience, the addition of the other’s body heat helps the bag remain comfortable in temperatures near its limit. If you are looking to camp when temperatures fall into the teens (F) and below, I recommend going with a sleeping pad that has an R-value at 5 or higher. That being the case, the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm is the sleeping pad to beat. Sleeping Pad Weight I always sleep and sit on the same side of the mat so that the inflation valve is face up and easy to access. What I love the most about the Q-Core SLX Compared with the earlier version of the Q-Core, the valves are dramatically improved, and I much prefer them to the XLite as well. There are two separate valves for inflation and deflation. The inflation valve is a one-way valve which means you can take breaks whilst you are blowing the pad up, without the risk of letting any air out! You can also tweak the air levels in the pad by letting small amounts of air out of the inflation valve using the red micro air pressure button. MAterials

I own the 27 oz 20" x 72" x 3.5" size. I am 5’4” and it is plenty long enough for me. If you are concerned about its weight, Big A does make a lighter version, the Q-Core SL. It is 10 ounces lighter, but substantially less comfortable. It is still comfortable, don't get me wrong, but the Q-Core's comfort is in another league. I personally am very happy with my decision to carry the heavier and more comfortable Q-core. Big Agnes claim to have improved the tear strength and durability of the SLX by a huge 25% (compared with the earlier Q-Core SL). They have upped their game by using a new double rip-stop nylon and aviation grade TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) that is super lightweight and mega durable. I’ve yet to have any reason to doubt the durability of the SLX, but it is so lightweight that I am still a little cautious about where and how I use it. Big Agnes Q-Core SLX sleeping pad review Another plus is that the Insulated Q-Core SLX Sleeping Pad comes in wide sizes, which can be advantageous to side sleepers who tend to turn from one side to the other during the night, helping you stay on your pad without the fear of rolling off onto the cold ground. A wide range of sizes is also available for the Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pad. It offers both mummy and rectangular shapes, plus short, wide, and long versions. One of these configurations is sure to be perfect for you, whether you want to cut ounces by going with the short mummy version, or you are big and tall and need a long, wide version.

Big Agnes Sentinel 30 Double Sleeping Bag

Big Agnes has fabulous customer service. Each time I sent one for replacement, I had the new one within 10 days of sending it ( I shipped it via Priority Mail). For the record, they have redesigned and improved the Insulated Air Cores now. In terms of overall shape, the Q-Core SLX features outer chambers that are raised a touch above the central ones, to subtly help cup you within the pad. Together with vertical and lateral pad construction, along with its quilted finish, it’s a design that I found provides both support and comfort, once the best air pressure is found. If you’re a side sleeper, I expect you’ll get on well with it, as it’s unlikely your hips will get cold or sore. And I can report that unlike some mattresses, sleeping on the Q-Core won’t keep your camping neighbours awake – there’s no squeaking or crumpling sounds to be heard. Within, the Q-Core SLX boasts Antimicrobial treatment inside the pad prevents to prevent microorganism growth from all that laboured breath. During the 4 night trip the temperature would drop into the thirties, and at one point I woke of with ice in my cooking pot. However I never felt cold from underneath the pad, while sleeping in a 20 degree down bag with a thin base layer.

To alleviate discomfort at your knees, it is a good idea to place a pad between them when sleeping on your side. You can bring a second pillow for this, but a sit pad can also do the job. If you are unable to find the source of the leak or are not sure how to repair it, please fill out our Online Claim Form. As mentioned above, and despite the general excellent strength of the mat material, the durability of the joins in the baffles haven’t lived up to my expectations. The Nemo Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pad, like the previous models mentioned above, does have a non-insulated version with a 1.6 R-value, which again, doesn’t make the cut for a good 3-season sleeping pad in my opinion, so the insulated version wins again. Why this sleeping pad is great for side sleepers

You can use a second sleeping pad underneath your primary pad to gain some extra cushion. A closed-cell foam pad will probably serve this purpose the best.
