Meaco claims the Zambezi offers more functionality and control than other domestic dehumidifiers on the market. And, from our testing of the unit, the Meaco Zambezi sure does do a lot. The display can look a bit mystifying at first glance, but it only takes a browse of the included manual to get to grips with the settings. Highlights include Meaco's Energy Saving Laundry+ mode, a sterilising ioniser and a Daily Run Timer - all of which Meaco say is exclusive to this unit. Meaco Energy Saving Laundry+ - continuously monitors the amount of moisture in the air and will vary its electricity usage to ensure that your washing is dried at the lowest cost possible A first-rate desiccant dehumidifier will feature a control board that is well laid out and easy to understand. While some people like a digital display, others are happy to use dials or buttons.
The Meaco DD8L comes with an anti-bacterial filter and an ioniser to help clean the air as it dehumidifies. There’s also a Laundry Mode – with a twist. Unlike regular laundry modes, which set the dehumidifier fan to full and run until you switch it off, the Meaco uses a humidistat to monitor humidity. As clothes dry, it reduces its energy usage to minimise the cost. Refrigerant dehumidifiers work better in heated rather than unheated rooms, since they need the air in the room to be warmer than the cold surfaces of the first coil.

It has a range of genuinely useful features, outstanding water extraction and is highly reliable. These characteristics, combined with the ability to work at lower temperatures than refrigerant models, makes it a great all-rounder. Meaco 20+ Control – automatically increases its fan speed if the relative humidity increases 20% above your set points We get enquiries on a regular basis asking what the differences are between the current DD8L and the new DD8L Zambezi. Although they are both desiccant dehumidifiers the differences are considerable. While it mainly depends on which model you choose and how often you run said model, most dehumidifiers aren't super energy-hungry.
As we mentioned earlier, you can set the target humidity in 5% intervals from a minimum of 40% up to 70%. There are also settings for the louvre, On/Off timers, daily timer and fan speed. Value for Money A downside is that it doesn’t have wheels. The lightweight design makes this less of an issue though. Water Extraction The DD8L was designed about 8 years ago now so it should come as no surprise to learn that lessons learnt over the years from the initial design have been incorporated into Zambezi, hence the internals only sharing one common part. Desiccant dehumidifiers work differently: they use a heated rotor to absorb air, then use a condenser to pull moisture out of the warm air. The water drips into a tank and dry air is pushed out of the appliance.

One vital advantage this one has over the more spacious refrigerant models is that it doesn't get negatively impacted by the UK weather as much, so it ends up getting rid of more water per day than some of the more capably built models - it just needs to be between 1 and 37 degrees Celsius to work properly. And finally, the control panel includes settings like fan speed, humidity extraction level, Meaco control logic, and timer. DD8L: Price UK It’s also larger than the Meaco DD8L and DD8L Junior. With dimensions of 35.8 x 54.8 x 20cm (WxHxD) it’s slightly wider than these models, but most significantly is nearly 5cm taller. This is unlikely to cause problems, but makes the Zambezi appear a little bulkier.
Additionally, with its humidistat able to target relative humidity with 5% steps (between 40-70%), it’s great for drying out excessive moisture in your house without wasting energy. The humidistat isn’t completely accurate, but does a decent job of reducing humidity to the right ballpark. A built-in timer will allow you to set your desiccant dehumidifier to run for a set of time. This can help you to keep your power consumption down and allows you to run your dehumidifier at a time that is convenient for you, for example, when you’re out at work. Noise The Meaco DD8L Zambezi is very quiet, so you can place it wherever you fancy, even in your bedroom! Fitted with control logic feature, DD8L is energy efficient, which means that you can keep its running costs low. British summers are very humid, and with all the wet weather we have had since the start of July, this year is particularly humid.
