About this deal

This is a great thriller about two best friends who grift their way through California until their scam hits a snag. Leo and Summer are literally like two peas in a pod. They do EVERYTHING together…. living a free spirit lifestyle they are traveling California in their Land Cruiser… but don’t let their looks fool you… 👱‍♀️these girls are experts at their game… a wallet here 💵… a ring 💍 there… and then they have… the long con…. 😉🤫 Many thanks to NetGalley and the Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine/Bantam for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions. I found the plot to be V E R Y S L O W for at least 60% into this book. It's a lot of slow investigating going on, internal dialogues in Livy's head about what might be happening, again us hearing her thoughts around secrets and clues that are popping up. It's a very slow coming together of details and there is really not a lot of action AT ALL until around the 80% completed book.

Alana is the New Kid in town, and she hates that fact that she is new and having to start all over again but her old Friend Esme is here, and they are ready to give their friendship another try. 1 Nigh, 1 New Year’s Eve Party and things take a turn for the worse and before Alana is knows it, the whole night has spiralled out of control. Esme is drowning and the new thing she knows Esme has been drugged with GHB. What was supposed to be a Great Night celebrating the end and start of a year takes an Avery dark turn and Alana is trying to piece it all together and wondering if she can help Police Solve the case and bring the culprits to justice. Though I'm glad Heard has 'made the jump' from YA, this book went from feeling like a thrilling bungee jump to feeling more like a cliff dive... but more specifically, a Wile E Coyote cliff dive. I do think some of the characters were done really well especially Livy's husband and Julia's brother. I think Hanna This is my first time reading this author. I want to thank my Goodreads friends for introducing me to this book, specifically. Summer and Leo have been best friends and scamming the obnoxious, California elite for some time now, and they have their sights set on their biggest score yet - self-made billionaire environmental philanthropist, Michael Forrester. When Leo charms her way into Michael's crosshairs, and lands an invitation to a getaway on his luxurious private island, the girls realize this could very well be their biggest payoff yet, if they play their cards right! Only Leo doesn't come home when Summer expects her to. As a matter of fact, Leo seems to have disappeared, without so much as a goodbye!Trapped on the vessel as it ventures toward their first destination, the friends struggle to come to grips with their new reality. Five years ago, con artist Summer rescued Leo from a life on the streets. Ever since then, they’ve roamed from town to town all over California depending on only one another. With the freedom to do whatever they like, the two have carved out the kind of life not necessarily made for everyone, but is perfect for them. Brief summary: New girl Alana attends a New Year's Eve party which goes tragically wrong when her good friend Esme is found face-down in a pool, presumed drowned. Soon, it transpires that Esme had a date-rape drug GHB in her blood and Alana realises, with horror, that it was HER drink that was meant to be spiked: Esme took it at the last minute. Guilt-ridden and angry, she makes a promise to herself and Esme to find the culprit but soon discovers that this is much harder than she had anticipated: the group of suspects all seem to have a suspicious past and a toxic attitude towards friendships and relationships that even stretches as far as rape and murder.

Trust is not an obsession, it’s an extension of love. When we truly love someone, we give them our heart to hold in their hands. And when that love is returned, that very trust is balm to our souls. Julie Lessman You Can Trust Me is about the bond of friendship between two different ladies and how they pull through a difficult time together. Both Summer and Leo are con artists who are constantly looking for opportunities to take advantage of. When the beautiful Leo meets the well-known millionaire Michael Forrester, she manages to wow him with her attractiveness, and he subsequently extends an invitation to visit his private island. At that point, she vanishes, and Summer is forced to take charge of the hunt for her friend who went missing. She makes up her mind that she will locate her friend regardless of the circumstances. It’s the execution where it rapidly goes south. I can’t tell you what happens because it’s a major spoiler, but it’s not even kind of what you’re imagining - I can nearly guarantee it. And I don’t mean that in a good way. I love twists and turns. But they need to make sense. And they need to add up. These don’t. SUCH a brilliant book. Like, SO GOOD. All YA fans need to read this! My high expectations were completely met. This is an intelligent utterly gripping thriller with a fast but not too fast pace and constant revelations. It is also a book that explores chilling real life issues, from sexual assault and dangerous drug use to privilege, male power and male allyship. It felt very of the moment and very convincing, and it went into these issues in a good and appropriate depth. But Livy does not accept the suicide death for Julia, and begins to investigate Julia’s life and realises that perhaps she did not know her at all. Alienating everyone around her, Livy is determined to get to the truth of the matter but danger lies ahead as she stirs up an age old murder and finds herself in the sights of a killer…The way the girls could get swept away to this island and once there, they honestly could have vanished into the ether. They were just playthings for the powerful men visiting the island; mere arm candy, trotted around like little prizes. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this book since I finished it, despite being on my second read since then! Blaxill has left no stone unturned when it comes to exposing the raw horrors of the difficult themes covered in this book. Lets start with the plot. A mystery you don't see coming, a concealed assault at a party on the grounds of a big estate. Private school boys and girls who don't see them coming, date rape drugs slipped into drugs. Alana is loveable and kind of a mess, and flawed, even though she's ultimately a really good friend and strives for justice and honesty. The title is a total lie, because you can't trust anyone, least of all the main characters. I ended up hating people I loved, loving people I thought I was mean to hate. The book is clever like that. Loved how it grasped my attention right from the off and then didn’t let go!’ Sam Carrington, author of SAVING SOPHIE Blaxill has exceptionally crafted the plot for this book. Every character and event was there for a reason, and there were no loose ends at the end of the book, or parts that left you wondering what happened next. This led to the most satisfying ending that I could have imagined – everything tied together so perfectly, and there were links between plot points that I did not see coming!

You must train your intuition – you must trust the small voice inside you which tells you exactly what to say, what to decide. Ingrid Bergman

The gripping psychological thriller full of twists and turns, from the bestselling author of WHERE THE MISSING GO – for fans of FOUND by Erin Kinsley, ALL THE RAGE by Cara Hunter and THE FAMILY UPSTAIRS by Lisa Jewell.

Leo sets her sights on a tech billionaire, hoping to scam some riches out of him, along with a fun night on his secluded private island. Except she doesn’t come home!! Now it’s up to Summer to con her way onto the island and find out what happened to her missing bestie. Livy finds Julia dead in her home, the police brand it as suicide with no foul play but Livy knows her friend better and is not convinced. The desire to know what has happened pushes her to start her own investigation into her friend's death. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder meets I May Destroy You, this dark YA thriller is a bold feminist read with a pacy thriller plot that YA fans will love, looking head on at priviliege, bias, sexual assault and male allyship.
