I’m always more than happy to rewatch classic Hong Kong action in newly polished transfers though, so I ventured on and my thoughts follow.

The restoration job isn’t as immediately night-and-day as the one pulled on Yes, Madam! – the original Hong Kong trailer included as the lone additional bonus looks acceptable enough – but is still fantastic. If you compare the clips of the California shootout, for example, on prior prints to the 2K restoration here, you’ll notice that the darks are less muddy and the interior lights glare much less. Presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, Yes, Madam! arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Eureka Entertainment. It’s a similar deal with Yes, Madam!. Hong Kong legend Corey Yuen’s sophomore feature is, to put it mildly, a severely compromised product which barely hangs together a lot of the time and holds up better as a moment of historical significance than a movie in its own right. From a recent master, Yes, Madam sports excellent detail in close and when still. Grain is easily resolved thanks to a fine encode. Launching both a successful franchise (the In the Line of Duty series) as well as an entire sub-genre of action cinema ("girls-with-guns"- a genre which did not truly exist before this film), Yes, Madam! is one of the most important and influential action films of its era, and Eureka Classics is proud to present the film in its UK debut on Blu-ray from a brand new 2K restoration. This is a typically excellent presentation from Eureka. At times it even seems like we’re watching a much more recent film – well it would if it wasn’t for the fashions.
