About this deal

A professional-grade audio interface onboard the XDJ-RX3 provides 24-bit/44.1kHz audio quality and a 20Hz-20kHz frequency range. Although that doesn’t quite match the 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution of the DJM-900NXS2 mixer, it always sounded crystal clear with the FLAC and uncompressed WAV files I played on it through Pioneer DJ HDJ-X10-K and Yamaha YH-L700A headphones, as well as ADAM Audio T8V and KRK Rokit 6 G3 studio monitors. And another final point, trying to be really clever last year, I got a thunderbolt drive by La Cie, these DO NOT work with Rekordbox. They mount to the computer in a different way than USB and so their mount point changes, meaning your playlists will disappear or lose their path. Worth more trouble and really no need to have that kind of speed for audio, now I use it for VJing and Serato The FX controls on the Pioneer XDJ RX2 will be familiar to anyone that uses Pioneer club gear. With 4 Sound Color FX, you’ll have access to the most commonly used FX options like Filter, Noise, Dub Echo, and Sweep. Can be used as a stand-alone mixer thanks to multiple connections The XDJ-RX can be connected to additional CDJs or turntables using the switchable Line/Phone input and used as a stand-alone mixer. It also features a LAN port, two MIC inputs, two Master outs and a booth out – making it a versatile solution for any set-up.

Have the ability to learn at home, on this gear the rekordbox system/DJM CDJ club standard way of playing – so that when I go to DJ in a club I will not shit my pants 🙂 But also you can set the unit into Midi mode for use as a “traditional” DJ controller with DJ software that can be mapped such as Traktor or VirtualDJ (great if you want to make the transition to Rekordbox gradually), and – my personal favourite – a highly useful brightness control for the display, so you can set it to be clear and easy to read in broad sunlight, while also so as not to dazzle you in a dark DJ booth. The XDJ-RX is not compatible with Serato DJ at the time of this writing. The XDJ-RX3 can operate two ways: as a full-fledged controller for Pioneer DJ’s Rekordbox 6 software or as a standalone DJ system playing music off a USB flash drive. The rear USB-B connection lets the XDJ-RX3 connect to both Mac and Windows computers (while the vivid touchscreen helps break your gaze from them). Two top-panel USB-A ports, meanwhile, support MP3, AAC, WAV, AIFF, and FLAC audio files, although Rekordbox software also supports Apple’s lossless ALAC format. Pioneer DJ has also promised a firmware upgrade in early 2022 that will make the XDJ-RX3 compatible as a controller for Serato DJ, making it compatible with more of the best DJ software options on a computer. Pioneer DJ set themselves a real challenge when upgrading the XDJ-RX2. The recent upgrades to both the CDJ and DJM range have pushed the boundaries of DJing - choosing which features to include, and how to cram them into the RX3 form factor, has resulted in a DJ system which challenges expectations at this price point.

Introducing the XDJ-RX3: With key features derived from Pioneer DJ's flagship gear. This upgraded all-in-one DJ system offers a 10.1-inch touch screen for effortless browsing and precise mixing.

Want to make every mix sound unique? Get creative with all 14 Beat FX and 6 Sound Color FX from the DJM-900NXS2 and explore fresh ways to dynamically manipulate your music with the Performance Pads and the newly added Release FX on the XDJ-RX3. There are numerous performance-related controls on the XDJRX3, including 14 Beat FX and 6 Sound Colour FX, adopted from the DJM-900NXS2. All effects from the RX2 are still present, with six extra Beat FX and two additional Sound Colour FX added. Now included within the 14 Beat FX are Filter, Helix, Ping Pong, Phaser, Vinyl Brake and Slip Roll, and within the 6 Sound Colour FX are Crush and Space. Release FX Improved wheel rotation responsiveness –always a fan of a more sensitive jog wheel, so it was a much-appreciated upgrade to feel like there was more flexibility and accuracy with beatmatching here. Keep an eye on the mode that the Performance Pads are set to, so you’ll know exactly what to expect when you hit one thanks to the new pad status display. Natural audio: The new audio design of the circuit board ensures that your audience will enjoy music as it is meant to be heard, without any unwanted external noise.

Is this unit in any way DVS compatible/expandable? I would like the have the option to use timecode vinyl on the SLs to control the software (particularly Serato DJ) and mp3s through this unit. DJ’s have been begging for a quality up to date DJ system/Controller which does not require a laptop. The XDJ-RX3 includes all the effects from its predecessor, plus an extra 6 Beat FX and 2 additional Sound Color FX. So, you can play with the full range of effects from the DJM-900NXS2: 14 Beat FX including Ping Pong, Filter, Phaser, Slip Roll, Vinyl Brake, and Helix, and 6 Sound Color FX including Space and Crush. Be able to use DVS to control my MP3s on the laptop/screen built into DJ controller (while I slowly build my vinyl records library) In addition to the familiar CDJ layout, the XDJ’s platters each feature four tactile pads to add a more physical element to sets. DJs hit the pads to instantly trigger Hot Cues they’ve prepared in rekordbox, or to set Auto Beat Loops.

Review Videos

A lot of DJ’s first comment on seeing this unit from NAMM was finally a laptop free system, oh but wait only 2 channels. I guess we will have to wait and see if Pioneer are listening to that. XDJ-RX DJ Controller has two CDJ-style platters that have a similar club standard layout and gives Artists on-the-spot access to top performance features including Slip Mode, Beat Sync, loops and Quantized cues. The unit's performance pads add a physical element, with immediate access to Auto Beat Loops and Hot Cues, or DJs can select and slice loops live in the mix with RX's brand-new Loop Slice function.

As far as the standalone mixer functionality in this: I understand that this mixer will be ‘digital’ as far as the architecture goes? Now with the XDJ-RX, for the first time it’s possible to see how a beginner DJ could buy this as their first controller, learning how to DJ on it the “Pioneer” way, and so theoretically carry those skills right across into the pro DJ booth when ready with a minimal learning curve to adjust to. Since one of the issues people have with software / controller DJing is “but the club I want to play in has CDJs, and I don’t know how to use them!”, this could turn out to be significant. Serato DJ Pro: With support for Serato DJ Pro, the XDJ-RX3 enables you to seamlessly browse through your Serato DJ Pro playlists and linked streaming service catalogs using the multi player. To create a playlist on to a drive you would first make it in the Rekordbox software, then “Sync” that playlist to the drive. They can be the same drive, but you would be duplicating your files.Another accuracy indicator is in the form of the 3Band Waveform support feature. It has been derived from the CDJ3000 and is where volume levels of different frequency ranges provide a more precise visual representation through different colours. The 3Band Waveform is in addition to the previous options of RGB and Blue.

With that –Rachel here, and I’ll be diving into our conversations and observations about the RX3. Read on, and let us know where you agree or disagree. The XDJ-RX3 also includes 14 Beat FX and 6 Sound Color FX from the DJM-900NXS2, as well as Performance Pads and newly added Release FX for dynamic music manipulation. The new audio design eliminates external noise for clear, natural sound, and the system inherits layout design traits from club-standard Pioneer DJ equipment.

With contrasting surface finishes on different sections of the unit – and a layout design inherited from club-standard gear that includes illumination around the play / cue buttons and Color On Jog Display – the XDJ-RX3 has a look that echoes a professional setup. Performance pad modes can be seen on the advanced display screen via the new Pad status display. You can switch between pad status, Beat FX and X-Pad, from the advanced touchscreen with one touch. This is a first where X-Pad is featured on a touchscreen on an all-in-one DJ System. These advanced features, which aim to produce complex sounds, have been made simple. LCD Colour On-Jog Display The Pioneer vs Traktor discussion is v interesting. I have used CDJ 2000 nxs a lot and I simply don’t find them as intuitive as the traktor system, both Manually and in SYNC mode. The hardware felt v impressive. Solid. The platters felt great and the mixer felt high quality. I started mixing and learning my way around the unit.
