a b "Self-published Colleen Hoover Talks Living the American Dream". CBS This Morning. May 20, 2013 . Retrieved July 10, 2014. This chapter follows the perspective of Tate Collins as she moves into her brother’s apartment building. The story is told in the first person point-of-view, and it is written in the present tense. This is a great choice because it allows the reader to connect with Tate on a deeper level. 4. CHARACTER: Which character should they care about most? I also disliked that Tate was “that girl” who believed she could change a man by loving him hard enough. It happens too often in real life, and it almost never turns out well. So, I didn’t really like the message that loving a person who’s not in a place for mature love will eventually make them a great partner.

Lust wants what lust can’t have. Lust wants me to have Rachel. Reasoning wants Rachel to go away. I take Reasoning’s side, and I turn to face Rachel again. “This won’t go anywhere,” I tell her. “Thisthing with us. It won’t end well.” “I know,” she whispers. “How do we stop it?” I ask her. She looks at me, hoping I’ll answer my own question. I can’t. Silence. Silence. Silence. LOUD, DEAFENING SILENCE. I want to cover my ears with my hands. I want to cover my heart with armor. I don’t even know you, Rachel. “I should leave,” I say. She tells me okay. “I can’t,” I whisper. She tells me okay. We stare at each other. Maybe if I stare at her enough, I’ll get tired of staring at her. I want to taste her again. Maybe if I taste her enough, I’ll get tired of tasting her. She doesn’t wait for me to reach her. She meets me halfway. I grab her face and she grabs my arms, and our guilt collides when our mouths collide. We lie to ourselves about the truth. We tell ourselves we’ve got this . . . when we don’t have it at all. My skin feels better with her touching it. My hair feelsSix years earlier “You’re getting an outie,” I tell her. I run my fingers over her bare stomach, and I kiss it. “It’s cute.” I press my ear to her skin and close my eyes. “I bet he’s lonely in there,” I say. “Are you lonely in there, buddy?” Rachel laughs. “You keep calling him a boy. What if he’s a girl?” I tell Rachel whatever he is, I’ll love him the same. I already love him. Or her. Our parents are out of town. We’re playing house again, except this time, we aren’t really playing. It’s kind of serious. “So what happens if he really does propose to her this time?” she asks. I tell her not to worry. I tell her he’s not proposing. He would ask me first before he did it. I know that much about him. “We have to tell them,” I say to her. She nods. She knows we have to tell them. It’s been three months. We graduate in two. She’s starting to show. She’s getting an outie. It’s cute. Rachel tells me thank you. Like she wasn’t the one who created this. Rachel is crazy. “I love him so much, Miles,” she says. She’s still crying. “I love him so, so much.” “I love him, too,” I tell her. I touch him. I want to hold him, but I want her to hold him even more. She looks beautiful holding him. Rachel looks up at me. “Will you please tell me his name now?” I was hoping he would be a boy so I could have this moment. I was hoping I could tell her what her son’s name is, because I know she’ll love it. I hope she remembers the moment she became my everything. Miles is going to show you the way to Mr. Clayton’s class, Rachel. “His name is Clayton.” She begins to sob. She remembers. “It’s perfect,” she says, her words mixed with tears. She’s crying too hard now. She wants me to hold him. I sit on the bed with her and take him. I’m holding him. I’m holding my son. Rachel rests her head on my arm, and we stare at him. We stare at him for so long. I tell Rachel he has her red hair. Rachel says he has my lips. I tell Rachel I hope he has her personality. She disagrees and says she hopes he’s just This way, you’ll be able to see the first chapter from a big picture lens and well as on the smaller, scene level, too. Ideally, you’ll be able to implement some of what you learn into your own first chapter as well. I encourage you to look at your first chapter through this macro and micro lens to make sure that you’re delivering enough of the big picture to your readers. This is also a fantastic exercise to do with the opening chapter of your favorite novels, too. You will learn so much and your writing will improve as a result. That concludes this Ugly Love summary, character guide, review, and readalikes. Related Colleen Hoover Posts

Upon her arrival, she first meets Cap, the charming 80-year-old elevator attendant who immediately befriends her.A couple of weeks ago I wasn't sure what to read next and asked a friend on goodreads to recommend something and she said Slammed was her favorite book ever. Well, I figured it had to be fairly good if it was her "favorite book ever". So I started it, and Will totally had me at grilled cheese sandwiches :-) Six years earlier Ian knows. I had to tell him. After the first week of school, he knew everything became Rachel. Rachel knows Ian knows. Rachel knows he won’t say anything. I give Rachel my room when she moves in, and I take the spare bedroom. My room is the only spare bedroom with its own bathroom. I want Rachel to have the better room. “Do you want this box in here?” Ian asks Rachel. Rachel asks what it is, and he tells her it’s all her bras and underwear. “I thought maybe I should just go ahead and put it in Miles’s room.” Rachel rolls her eyes at Ian. “Hush,” she tells him. He laughs. He likes that he’s in on such a private thing. That’s why he would never tell. He knows the power of secrets. Ian leaves after all the boxes are unloaded. My father passes me in the hallway and pauses. His pause means I should pause, too. “Thank you, Miles.”
