The specific kit we received is part a larger family, with only the highest-end Trident Z Neo SKUs rated for CAS latency of just 14 at DDR4-3600 like this. Going that low in the latency department is quite pricey – though you’re also paying for premium Samsung ICs that are tested to work properly on AMD platforms at these speeds/latencies. B-die has a great reputation, and deservedly so. I’ve had zero compatibility issue running Samsung B-die memory on AMD Ryzen motherboards, with the Flare X my previous go-to kit from G.Skill (also Samsung B-die).This G.Skill Trident Z Royal kit comes equipped with the highly regarded Samsung B-Die IC, known for its ability to scale with voltage. If you have a good CPU memory controller and a capable motherboard, you’ll be able to push this kit well beyond its rated specification. Gaming-wise, you won't see much of an improvement here. Firing up numerous games, including Grand Theft Auto V, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, Stellaris, and Tomb Raider, I found a slight increase in FPS compares to 3200MHz of around 2. That doesn't sound much, and it's not, especially when the price difference between 3200 and 4000MHz kits is a fair chunk of change.
Third-party software support and compatibility depends on software version and operating environment, and are subject to change without notice. For example, DDR5-5600 has a data rate of 5600 MT/s, an effective frequency of 5600 MHz, and a base frequency of 2800 MHz. This same number in units of MHz is called the "effective frequency." The effective frequency is the base frequency times two because it is double data rate (DDR) RAM. Our analysis shows that the G.Skill Trident Z RGB (F4-4000C18D-32GTZR) RAM has an effective frequency of 4000 MHz, which leads us to conclude that it is Good for gaming and professional tools.

Lastly, we examined the performance using a few memory benchmark tests offered within the SiSoftware Sandra suite. The flagship product, known as Sandra, is a powerful suite of many different benchmarks used to evaluate the computer performance of all major components, including the processor, graphics, memory, and disk. Our analysis shows that the G.Skill Trident Z Neo (F4-4000C18D-32GTZN) RAM has an effective frequency of 4000 MHz, which leads us to conclude that it is Good for gaming and professional tools. The Ultimate Luxury Aesthetic With the prevalence of RGB lighting in system builds, the multi-facet heatspreader of the Trident Z Royal Elite reflects the RGB lighting within the system in multiple directions to create a radiant effect for the ultimate luxury aesthetic. Even considering that this memory is on the QVL for our motherboard, it’s not a foregone conclusion that the XMP profile will work, in fact, it’s somewhat common for the XMP profile not to work or have stability issues. However, we’re happy to report that we had absolutely no trouble with the XMP profile with all BIOS settings on auto, despite the high-frequency rating. The Trident Z Neo memory modules come with XMP timings of 16-16-16-36, which aren't the worst in the memory world. However, with DRAM voltage set to 1.45V, we tightened the timings down to 13-14-14-35 before the kit became unstable. Bottom Line
This kit is the 4000MHz (CL15) kit, but G.SKILL sells its Trident Z Royal in an array of configurations. Starting at just 2666MHz, it's possible to save a little by going with slower modules (you can buy a 64GB 2666MHz kit for less than this 16GB review sample) or spend even more on up to 4800MHz DIMMs. Next, we used Geekbench 4 to test our memory profiles. It’s one of the best synthetic benchmarks for predicting ‘real-world’ performance. This benchmark utilizes 25 unique sub-benchmarks of varying complexity and then collates them to create an overall picture of performance. From the SPD read, we are not able to determine the exact die used on the modules. Based on the price point and specification, we would guestimate that it’s the D-Die, which could be considered the high-tier IC within the Hynix family. It also shows us that our test kit leverages the advantages of the A2 style PCB.
