About this deal

As per my main prediction but Ollanius kills the Emperor, because the Emperor is going to kill Horus and doom humanity. The End and the Death starts much as the rest of the Siege with vignettes from the fighting on Terra which is a great way to demonstrate the global nature of the conflict. Abnett interspersed these stories with discussions from Horus on his father and brothers a Malcador talking about the Emperor. Both include great further snippets from the past and how the Emperor got to where he finds himself. Sure, it doesn't all make sense especially when they discuss pre 21st century history, but its fun watching Malcador and Horus separately talk of the weaving of the fates!

Roboute Guilliman: Lord of Ultramar • Leman Russ: The Great Wolf • Magnus the Red: Master of Prospero • Perturabo: The Hammer of Olympia • Lorgar: Bearer of the Word • Fulgrim: The Palatine Phoenix • Ferrus Manus: Gorgon of Medusa • Grandfather's Gift • Perturabo: Stone and Iron • Malcador: First Lord of the Imperium • Konrad Curze: A Lesson in Darkness • Jaghatai Khan: Warhawk of Chogoris • Vulkan: Lord of Drakes • Sons of the Emperor • Corax: Lord of Shadows • Angron: Slave of Nuceria • Scions of the Emperor • Konrad Curze: The Night Haunter • Ghost of Nuceria • The Passing of Angels • The Abyssal Edge • Mercy of the Dragon • Lion El'Jonson: Lord of the First • Illyrium • The Revelation of the Word • Morningstar • Will of the Legion • Embers of Extinction • Alpharius: Head of the Hydra • Blood of the Emperor • Loyal Sons • Mortarion: The Pale King • Rogal Dorn: The Emperor's Crusader • Sanguinius: The Great Angel • Heirs of The Emperor Can see book one being the lead up with the final war council, malcador going on the throne, perpetuals getting into positions, custodians and flo doing something etc and it ending with the teleport up/relief fleet breaking into the system. Unfortunately, we live in this one, and the fact is that we have a sprawl of plotlines that require resolution (or continuation) before we get to the fun stuff. We are resigned - resigned, perhaps, is not the most positive word, but an appropriate one, I think - to an entire book of character shuffling. We must finish our narrative sprouts before we get our just desserts. I honestly did not expect the most artistically impressive book I read this year to be a 40k one, yet here we are. Now, Dan Abnett has been kind of the father of the language of the Imperium for decades at this point, going all the way to the Eisenhorn novels where he introduced a lot of the strange-but-familiar terms that have come to define the Imperial side of the setting since then. Book have big problem with phasing. I need to elaborate a bit. Book have 4 large parts made of chapters. What more can W40K ask for - heroes greater than life, epic battles, small bits about personal life of Emperor and other secretive characters, plus portrayal how knowledge about the universe and Chaos was known to humanity for a long time (library scenes, pictures with thrones and Babel Tower, and then the hidden vault - I truly enjoyed this).

The Emperor and Oll Persson once conquered the Tower of Babel when Oll was his Warmaster because it was dedicated to learning Enuncia. Oll thought they were going to destroy the Tower but the Emperor thought Enuncia could be useful. Oll stabbed him. While I've given this book 5 stars for the massive enjoyment I've drawn from it and I was truly blown away even though I already loved most of the series up to this point, it's not perfect. If there's one thing I have to single out, then that its connection to its direct predecessor, Echoes of Eternity, feels... off, somehow. I won't go into too much detail to avoid spoilers, but it feels like this was written off an outline of the ending of Echoes, without all the details in place. It's not totally jarring, but there were several moments that made me go "Wait, this doesn't fit". The other thing is that even now, three books later, the regrettably bad Mortis raises its head yet again, forcing Abnett to drag along some of its elements and going so far as to almost flat out retcon some others. Discussion thread for the first instalment of the two-part finale of the Siege of Terra series. The Garro novella will be released in January. The walls have fallen, the gates are breached, and the defenders are slain. It is the end and the death. After seven brutal years of civil war, the Warmaster stands on the verge of victory. Horus Lupercal, once beloved son, has come to murder his father. Abnett does well enough, but endnig something so wast so massive as is Horus Heresy is not easy task.

Working out the story he wanted to tell must have been the most difficult part of writing this for Dan Abnett, because we know what should be in this book and can even guess what should be in part two – the shields of Horus’ flagship are lowered, the Emperor, Dorn, Sanguinius and his Custodian Guard teleport aboard. A fight ensures. The End and the Death is the eighth and final novel of the Siege of Terra series. [1] It will be split into an unknown number of parts. [2] Ahriman alone can kill a dozen Custodes without breaking a sweat. The Loyalists will need a lot of Librarians to delay him. Same with Typhus.

We have seen an almighty void war ravage the heavens as Horus Lupercal’s fleet punched through Rogal Dorn’s defences in The Solar War . Battle lines met on Terra, and traitor Primarchs unleashed their unnatural powers in The Lost and the Damned . Perturabo commanded a battle of bloody attrition in The First Wall , making it his mission to undo the Praetorian of Terra’s impregnable defences. Horus wins, but Vulcan uses his doomsday device to destroy all traitorous and loyal forces around earth. Only Vulcan survives. Humanity fractures into fiefdoms. Guilliman sets up a successful mini-empire. This was always going to be difficult, so many strands to weave together, to tie up but unfortunately not all the sub plots were good. Hard to be too harsh on one of my favorite authors so i'll say that all in all he's done a reasonable job. Vintage Abnett? Not for me and I'm hoping for better with volume 2. Gaunts ghosts is probably his best work. Siege of Terra? Definitely Saturnine volume 4. So….this is it then: the end of the journey. Well, not completely yet of course, but with this book the story really does begin to near it’s conclusion. I’ve mentioned this before, I feel sad it’s all about to end, but at the same time I’m also reaching the point where I’m feeling that it really is time to end this. The first and foremost being the perpetual subplot with Oll and John, it was always terrible but it reaches new depths of pointlessness in this novel with Oll essentially declaring his plan was just to have a chat with the Emperor yeah like that was going to achieve anything at this point Horus is about to obliterate Earth and you think you can fix it by having a chat with the Emperor. I never had hopes this subplot had a point but this is pathetic.

While exploring the Imperial library Loken finds a door that didn't exist previously and it takes him to the Vengeful Spirit. The book ends with him entering the ship For the first time we see Custodes for what they are - secret army tasked with two most difficult tasks - defending the Emperor and keeping the darkest secrets in the universe. But they are not infallible. In communication between their various cadres they show very little patience and understanding even for their own comrades in arms if they see their duty or authority is questioned. Valdor as always is Titan in its own right, and here it seems that he is beginning to eye the Legions in a same way as Thunder Warriors - tools whose usefulness is more and more under question. Although they seem like automata, Custodes are much, much more and it shows - they scheme, play power politics and are identified as a very powerful force that has lots of influence on Terra. But can it be trusted, especially with the ever growing influence? In the time when everything is turned on its head, can any of the very powerful segments of Terran government and military be fully trusted? It's the beginning of the ultimate conclusion to the Horus Heresy, and hope still remains for the Loyalists! The Emperor plans a gambit that could snatch victory from the jaws of defeat – but at what cost?In one of their most famous tales, the Ghosts intervene in the fractious civil war on Verghast in Necropolis by Dan Abnett. Two hive cities – one loyal, one traitor – wage a never-ending war across the surface, and rivalries within the Astra Militarum threaten to derail the Tanith First and Only’s efforts. It starts great and gets faster and better untile second half of third part. Then it hits breaks. Story slows down as if Dan realized that there must be seconde book.
