About this deal

If another player beat their card score, the caller scores only their color bonus and all other players score their own card score. Calling “last chance” triggers Sea Salt & Paper’s masterstroke, a risk-reward bet that you have more points than anyone else around the table. All the other players get one extra to try and best your score, with your hand of cards revealed. Pull it off, and you score bonus points for each card in your biggest set of matching colours. If someone out-scores you, though, you sacrifice the normal value of your cards and only score the relatively paltry colour bonus - while everyone else gets to score as usual. (Side note: Sea Salt & Paper includes ColorADD’s colour alphabet, using symbols on each card to denote their colour for colourblind players.)

If you decide to gamble, you reveal your entire hand and publicly declare your point total. Every other player gets one more turn to try and beat your score. If they do, you score only a ‘colour bonus’– one point for the largest number of identical colours in your hand, while the other victorious players score all their cards. He will pause, then raise his sword high in the air causing lightning to strike. Then green ritual circles will appear, becoming brighter and brighter before zombie arms begin slashing minions that are in the circle.

If the caller has the highest (or equal highest) card score they score those points plus their color bonus. Other players score only their own color bonus. Some cards add additional ways to score - and in the case of the mermaids, you instantly win if you play all four.

The overall game ends when one player reaches the target score – 40 points for two players, 35 for three and 30 in a four-player game. What does tend to happen is that as someone gets close, there’s a race to seven, shouting “STOP” as soon as you can to get over the line first and claim the winner’s crown. Is It Really That Good There are two arenas with bosses in the final wave. In the harbour Wharfmaster Glenn makes an appearance that must be defeated.
