About this deal

While I have your attention, let me tell you that this book is definitely worth your time and your cash. I'm a massive fan of medieval fantasy, coming of age books in particular. The Dawn Of Wonder by Jonathan Renshaw took up all my time at one point and I've since judged books by that standard. This first installment in the Path of the Ranger series certainly did not disappoint.

for one the political intrigue and mystery (and as mentioned above, the betrayals if I ignore the negative bits). I do think they should have let the king and his brother die because they really are terrible people and the world would be better off without them, but then again now we’ll get to see an unnamed person take the throne with some no doubt evil mastermind plans so that’ll be fun. Is Lasgol going to survive this first year of instruction at the Rangers’ Camp? Or is he going to find out what happened to his dad? Is he going to be able to clear his name? Another relationship I really enjoyed though was Astrid and Viggo’s friendship. I think it will continue since they’re still training together and seem to be kindred spirits in a way so that’ll be great. The interpersonal relationship between Astrid and Lasgol has hit the wall, continuing to have only passionate kissing, despite lasting for years, past adulthood, and well into the point where both of them are killing other people on a regular basis. This is a huge disconnection in maturity of the characters. So violence OK, sex not OK? A kingdom in danger, a great betrayal, a boy seeking to redeem his father's honor. Will he succeed in exonerating him and saving the realm from an enemy in the shadows before it’s too late?

Descending the Snowdon Ranger Path

Okay, I think I covered all the Snow Panthers. There were other characters, so I could go on, but I won't. I did like the other characters, tho!! Lasgol has long blonde hair and pale skin along with the icy blue eyes of a Norghanian. He is average height and rather much more agile than the average Norghanian. King Uthar’s going to invade the Frozen Continent with his hosts to put a stop to Darthor. The Rangers, including Lasgol and all his buddies, are going to find themselves involved in the war campaign. They’ll learn about the Mystery of the Tundra in the Frozen Continent and take part in the great battle for the North. Are Lasgol and his buddies survive their third year of instruction? Are they going to survive the war in the North, the double crossing, and the treachery? There are regular Sherpa Buses and you can also use the Welsh Highland Railway (request stop). Both allow you to reach the Ranger from Porthmadog/Beddgelert and Caernarfon, with connections to Pen-y-pass and Betws-y-coed.

This one was also more gorey, a big part of that being thanks to those awesome death traps. I really do appreciate it though since it is a war and it’s actually realistic so you feel the weight of it more. The characters have grown so much and have such great depth. I think Viggo has grown on me the most since even though he is loud and obnoxious he is fierce and protective as well. Gerd - Gerd was super cool too! I really love him and he is, as my cousin calls him, a giant teddy bear. Big, and pretty strong, but has many fears, and he was just super loveable and sweet. I really liked him. Viggo - Honestly, at first, Viggo kinda irked me. He was so rude at first, and I wasn't sure what to think about him. But he grew on me. He's actually a really awesome character, and he was pretty funny, too. I love him!!

Publication Order of Path of the Ranger Books

Lasgol who is the main character that is a constant. He has grown so much in this series do far. He went from the person wanting to clear his dad's good name to find out his mother was Darthor and didn't die when everyone assumed. He has also went through so much emotionally and it has made him so much better person. The King has summoned all the leaders of the Rangers to a Great Council in the capital to discuss the problem of the Dark Rangers. Lasgol and Astrid are traveling to Count Malason’s estate on a mission for Egil, stopping briefly at Lasgol’s home. Viggo and Ingrid are assigned to the Ranger escort for the five Elder Elite Specialists of the Shelter to the Council meeting. While Egil and Gerd have been assigned to the group escorting the traitor Eyra to Norghania, tasked to make sure she arrives alive. None of them are happy about the Kings involvement in what is supposed to be just for the leaders of the Rangers, but they have no say in it. I don't mind Lasgol being a softy but he really needs to get it together. His self-righteousness is kind of obnoxious but at least he realizes it. I also feel like he keeps getting manipulated. Specifically by Astrid. I'm honestly glad Viggo doesn't trust her.

At the Camp he will find himself involved in political intrigues, disloyalties and murder. He will encounter hatred and fearsome enemies, but also a handful of friends, novices as much out of place as he is himself, determined to do whatever is necessary to pass the first year... without dying in the attempt. Lasgol is the son of the traitor; the man who betrayed the kingdom and tried to kill the king. At the age of 15, he has endured a hard childhood. In his small village in the North, where he’s cornered and hated, his only companions are the mountains and ever-present snow. Yet he refuses to believe that his father is guilty, even though the king himself was a witness to the betrayal. The training methods for each of the specializations are both interesting and dangerous. I love Snowflake.Uthar gathers up his armies together and gets ready to repel him. Not all the Norghanian nobles are with this King. The Western League doesn’t support him, as they want to regain the crown for the West and for the Olafstones. The companions are divided, they must choose between supporting either the Rangers and the King or Darthor and the Western League. If they decide to support Darthor, they will be committing treason and will pay with their lives if they are found out. Which getting to the point I greatly dislike. First she expects him to tell her every single secret but then doesn't tell him anything about herself. He literally knows nothing about her but he loves her. No thank you. Also she demands these answers and then also gets so self-righteous herself and doesn't even give him any form of trust. How is he supposed to trust you if you don't do anything to build it.
