About this deal

In second place was the Smarties Easter Egg with 65.35g of sugar per 100g and third place was M&M's Salted Caramel with 65g of sugar per 100g. The treats were then ranked according to their sugar content per 100g, with the dental experts saying the higher the sugar content, the worse the Easter egg could be for your teeth. If you want dairy free, moo free can always be relied upon as usual they have a few different eggs on offer all gluten free. Waitrose have some tempting offerings this year. The Heston at Waitrose Chocolate scotch egg isn't gluten free but not to worry we have a recipe for that! In second place for lowest sugar content was Ferrero Collection with 39.9g of sugar. In third place was Ferrero Rocher with 41.8g of sugar per 100g. Both contain less sugar because of the high nut content, the dental experts said. Top 5 Easter eggs with the lowest sugar content:

This list doesn't include any regular "available all the time" chocolate, you can find any gluten free chocolate that is available all year round in this blog - UK Gluten Free Chocolate and Sweets You may be surprised to learn Tesco is currently the cheapest supermarket for Easter eggs, according to the Sun. The lead up to the Easter season is one of the busiest periods for the factories and production runs for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Alcoholic chocolate may sound like a great idea, especially if you gave up chocolate for Lent but this was a bit too sweet for most of our tasters, and we spent a good few minutes debating whether pink gin belongs in an egg.

Coming in joint top for Easter eggs with the highest sugar content were Galaxy Ripple and Galaxy Minstrels Easter Eggs with 68g of sugar per 100g. I have seen a fair few dairy free free from eggs floating around the supermarkets too like last year. Possibly due to the popularity of veganism but great for those who are coeliac and dairy free too.

This year Morrisons range is very disappointing, the majority of their own brand Easter chocolates carry may contains expect for the dedicated free from egg. This large version of Cadbury’s most popular chocolate went down well; its size meant it was “better for sharing”. “You know it’s Cadburys – you can tell,” said our nine year old tester. “This is my favourite, can I have the rest?” asked another. For the price you can’t really go wrong, one for the whole family and the fussy eater.

A few Lindt easter eggs are gluten free this year. Lindt claim that Lindors which contain barley are below the 20ppm threshold and are safe for Coeliacs, therefore I have included them but I have asterisks(*), use your on judgement on whether you feel safe eating them or not. Only the white chocolate eggs do not contain barley in the Lindor range. SMARTIES® were originally named 'Chocolate Dragée' when we first started making them in Rowntrees in York around 1882 - before being renamed Chocolate Beans, then finally SMARTIES® in 1937. SMARTIES® contain a creamy milk chocolate centre with a crispy sugar shell that has been at the heart of SMARTIES® for nearly 80 years! SMARTIES® are available in a mixture of 8 different coloured shells - covering red, yellow, green, blue, violet, pink, brown and orange. Unique to the UK only, the orange SMARTIES are the only colour to contain a flavour - with the shell infused with natural orange oil. You can’t beat a classic and is a reasonably priced egg with a decent sized bag of Percy Pig sweets included. Compared to some of other chocolate we tasted this was bland but our junior tasters gobbled up the sweets.

As usual M&S totally out strip everywhere else with their gluten free easter eggs, most are gluten free but odd ones aren't safe - a couple contain "wheat fibre" too this year, I have missed them off the list though they do make a statement on the box about it being gluten free but use your own judgement on that one. If you are shopping at Asda this year there are a few gluten free choices in easter eggs you can choice from though most of them are part of the free from range so dairy free too. I love Kinder Surprise and all the Surprise easter range is gluten free along with some other Kinder products. You maybe delighted to know that the Kitkat Bunnies easter egg is gluten free and also mini eggs, they also have some other eggs which are gluten free too.Who doesn't love mini eggs? Those and many other Cadbury easter eggs are gluten free, if you miss Cadbury caramel bars you may be delighted to know that caramel eggs are gluten free unlike the bars. Your choice of reduced chocolate eggs includes KitKat, Cadbury, Hershey's, Twix, Galaxy, M&Ms and Maltesers, with the offer available in store and online. Unique to the UK and Ireland, the orange Smartie has always been given it's individual flavour by using natural orange oil, though orange smarties now only have orange oil in the shell rather than in the chocolate itself.
