About this deal

You started the popular #postyourpill, which is all about breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. When you first started that, what reaction did you get? I believe this time last year, a TikTok video containing the hashtag got taken down. How did you feel when you saw that? During some self-reflection when he was still working in A&E, George says he realised he wasn’t practising what he preached. "I thought, ‘I’m here talking about finding balance and looking after your own mental health, and I’m actually damaging my own mental health by doing too much."

You take ownership of the things you can control, and you let go of the things you can’t Dr Alex George

About Alex George

For George, that means walking ("a lifeline for me"), a few close friends and hiit classes at the gym. The book will feature a mental health toolkit to help you thrive. Dr Alex is looking to change the conversation about what mental fitness is and how we should approach it. He believes looking after your mental fitness means taking a 360° approach to your physical and emotional health.” It’s a topic he explores in his latest book, The Mind Manual, on the mental fitness foundations to give us all a boost – just in time for Mental Health Awareness Week (May 15-21) – including how to hold better boundaries and why mistakes are part of life.

With detailed sections dedicated to informing us on how our mental health can impact our physical health, and what we can change in our day-to-day lifestyle choices to combat this, The Mind Manual is a must have toolkit for anyone looking to take their first steps towards a brighter, healthier and happier future. Learning life skills, even things like finances – the number one cause of stress in adulthood is finances. We need to learn about that in school. Financial health is actually a topic – it’s a real thing which even I didn’t know until a couple of years ago. Fundamentally, schools should build emotional literacy from a young age, resilience training, [and] mental fitness training. That’s partly through classroom activities and partly through what the school’s structure is. We need to get in early and give them the support they need.
