Should've discovered this one much earlier than I did. My bread-and-butter signature scent during most of my uni years, and even some time after that, was the original L'Homme which at the time I first smelled it in 2015, blew my mind. I was initially skeptical that this flanker could live up to the original that I enjoyed dearly and associate with some of the happiest years in my life. Finally getting to smell LNDH came to me with some sense of pleasant surprise. Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de l`Homme is a new masculine representative of the house of YSL and it appeared on the market in March 2009. The perfume is announced as one full of contrasts and tensions.

One thing I can't wrap my head around is the idea that this is mostly a date night scent. This is of course a perfect date night scent, but the idea behind it *as a date night scent* is not to spray tens or over twenty times to compensate for the poor longevity. You're supposed to spray just enough to create a subtle bubble of soothing, spicy warmness to draw your girl closer to you instead of repulse her by turning this into a projection monster. It’s a sweet scent that doesn’t venture off into the super candy-like aroma, rather, it remains steadfast in its masculinity. Sweet, but the opening is a spicy freshness, with dry and woody undertones. That will shift, as we move along, but the opening brings it. I like the use of lavender, overall the lavender is the bread and butter of this fragrance and it supports the entire structure of it. Cardamom is the note that this fragrance is remembered for, but it's the cardamom and spices combining with the lavender which acts as a vessel for all of those other notes. Also, the lavender makes this a fresh fragrance, not as much as the original L'Homme or it's non-La Nuit flankers, but it's fresher than what you might expect because the lavender is very clean and definitely synthetic, but in a good way. I think this is actually a really good choice for the office, better than how some people make it out to be although this is going to be a great intimate fragrance because I can't imagine very many girls NOT liking this. Fresh off the atomiser, you’re greeted with a heavy blast of masculine cedar and Vetiver combination that is softened by the fresh lavender stalks. Everyone knows that its longevity infamously abysmal. Still, I bought a travel atomiser and wear it anyway because I love it that much. This lasts about 30 minutes to 1 hour while projecting at arm's length on my skin. It can barely reach 2 hours with the same projection when I apply it to my skin and clothes. But (perhaps unsurprisingly) it goes into the next day when I spray it underneath my clothes. LNDH is all about the soothing lavender and sweet, fizzy cardamom, held together by a dry woody undertone that lingers and becomes more prominent after the first two wear off. Slightly sweet, warm, woody, slightly spicy, and dry. Longevity is not the greatest, I get 3 hours at best, but the average projection will keep up for most of the duration of it. I blind -bought this for my partner (and I use men's colognes myself) and was pleased that for once it was not one of those sweet/ aquatic nasal-passage-destroying men's scents. I think weather/ temperature plays a big part. You wouldn't drink a glass of warm white wine nor an ice-cold glass of red, so why would you wear a blaring loud fragrance in the heat of summer? Greetings fragrant peoples ~ before I start my review, please do take note that I’ve personally reversed the note breakdown below as my nose sends a signal to my brain that it’s detecting the reversed notes pyramid of La Nuit De L’homme EDT by YSL. Overall, though, I have to recommend this scent. It is sexy and pleasing and generally very well-liked by women. I really like the opening burst, with the bergamot. Plus, the dry down when the vetiver arrives is great.

The first impressions that I gather from La Nuit is how utterly perfect it seems for nighttime wear. I mean, there are plenty of great smelling colognes, but this is just built for a night on the town and for getting close to the ladies. There is a sort of spiciness to it, with a slightly acrid/bitter lime, floating around a relatively woody, earthy lavender.
