About this deal

Next apply the Keiki Paste using an included disposable cotton swab. Dab a pea sized amount of paste on each node. Dip the Cut End: Dip the cut end of the orchid part into the rooting agent. If you’re working with a stem cutting, dip the end closest to the base of the plant. For best success, you will need to ensure that the first bulb has growth from this year, so you want to use a pseudobulb that is just starting to develop. If you use an old bulb, the chances of success decrease.

From start to finish, it might take a year or more to grow a new orchid plant large enough to be potted on its own. Whether you decide to propagate a new orchid plant using keiki paste, stem cuttings, or pseudobulb division, patience is key. Although the process is takes time, nothing is more rewarding than seeing new orchid plants grow using just a few tools and your time. On the other hand, I have since applied Keiki paste to many other orchids, and it works great. Keiki pate does work amazingly on Orchids. Applying Keiki Paste On Monstera Noid (former Monstera Epipremnoides)

KEIKIS

Choose a mature, healthy part for propagation, be it a Keiki, an aerial root, a leaf, or a stem cutting. Treat the cut area of the mother orchid’s stem with an anti-fungal powder, such as ground cinnamon, to prevent infections. Using an orchid cloning paste, you can encourage your orchid to grow a keiki along its stem. The keiki paste contains growth hormones. This stimulates the orchid into producing a keiki. Place the tray (which is still in the clear plastic bag) in an area where it can get bright, indirect sunlight.

The key ingredient in keiki paste is a chemical called 6-benzylaminopurine, also known as benzyl adenine, 6-Benzyladenine, BAP or BA. For easy reference, I will call it BAP throughout this article. According to the American Chemical Society, BAP mimics the plant hormone cytokinin in eliciting plant growth by cell division, shoot multiplication and axillary bud proliferation. It also helps delay aging and keeps cut plants or vegetables fresh.Stimulate the formation of too many shoots or peduncles at the same time. Keiki paste can be applied to each orchid at a maximum of three points. This applies only to perfectly healthy plants with a sufficiently developed root system, which are provided with the correct microclimate and proper care. Orchid keikis occur naturally when growth hormones accumulate at a node on the flower spike. The production of keikis can also be induced through the use of keiki paste. This paste consists of concentrated growth hormones and is applied directly to the node. You need to be wary of applying the Keiki paste when the orchid plant is healthy, when it is not in bloom, and probably not in the deepest winter. Avoid placing them where they will be exposed to direct afternoon lighting. This is often the strongest, most intense light of the day. If you plan to place your humidity tray near a west facing or south facing window, you may need to cover the window with a thin curtain. Doing so will ensure that the right amount of light reaches your stem cuttings. The clear plastic bag will help trap in some of the moisture. It will also maintain high humidity levels for the stem cuttings, while still allowing light to pass through.

Instead of waiting for your orchid to produce keiki on its own, you can take some steps to trigger keiki growth on your orchids. You can perform division using a clean, sharp knife, a pair of shears, or even by gently pulling the plant apart. In many cases, the plant will have a natural area where it splits easily, and it’s a good idea to follow that division as much as possible. Basically, instead of applying orchid cloning paste to the orchid node while the flower spike is still attached to the orchid, you will cut the flower spike off first. Like any drug, especially a hormonal one, Keiki paste has a number of “contraindications for use”, more precisely, restrictions. The tool can not always be used if you do not want to do more harm than good to a normally developing orchid. Therefore, it is strongly discouraged: But you can’t use immature keiki for cloning. An immature keiki might just look like a small bump or node on the flower spike at first, with one or two small leaves starting to emerge. 4. Help the Keiki Get MatureUsing seeds is a method of sexual reproduction, in that two different plants will have cross-pollinated to produce a new plant with some characteristics of both of the parent plants. Raising plants from seeds can be challenging because seedlings are so delicate. You may also need to mist your keiki’s roots daily or several times a week to ensure they do not dry out. But what is it? This is a question that gets asked more often than not, so I decided to write a blog post dedicated solely to ‘ keiki paste’ – I hope it answers your questions!
