PRO TIP: The “box” in box switches doesn’t have anything to do with the shape of the stem (which features a box), but rather a separate, tiny box inside of the switch housing. the “box” in Kailh Box switches The Kailh Box Jade Switch has a reputation for being very smooth and having a quiet operation. They are often compared to the Cherry MX Brown switch, which is also known for its smooth feel and quiet operation. This force amount is pretty standard for switches and it won’t be too light or heavy, right down the middle in terms of heaviness. The Kailh BOX Switch Color

Hope you all liked this, it's definitely my longest post ever so feel free to critique my formatting too ;) As well, the addition of the O-ring in the jailhouse modification of the Cherry MX Blue switch did absolutely nothing to alter the stem wobble of the switch, continuing to make it significantly more wobbly than the Kailh Box Mute Jades. Scores and Statistics Kailh Box Jade Switches are a newer switch type than Cherry MX Blues. They are considered a mechanical switch, but they are a bit different than other mechanical switches. Kailh Box Jade Switches have a square housing, whereas most other mechanical switches have a cylindrical housing. The Speed switches have a shorter actuation distance which is supposed to boost your reaction time when gaming. Coming in marginally less wobbly than that of previous Kailh Box switch iterations, these have a potentially noticeable but likely unproblematic amount of N/S and E/W stem wobble for the vast majority of users out there. Signature winglatch housings also quash all top housing budge. Sound

For the headset my voice did reach 0 dB for its peak while my typing reached -13.754 dB, without RNNoise. With RNNoise the typing peaked at -44.508 dB, so the neural network had a massive impact. With the contrast tool, my voice was at -16.09 RMS dB and my typing at -43.12 RMS dB for a difference of 27.03 RMS dB without RNNoise. With the filter enabled my voice was at -21.25 RMS dB and my typing was at -80.15 RMS dB for a difference of 58.90 RMS dB. We’ll go over which Kailh switches we recommend and talk about the ones we are not fans of to help save you from choosing the wrong switch on your next keyboard. An Overview of Kailh Switches In this article, we will show you the detail of this brand! We hope you can enjoy it ! Brand reputation and the history I created a scene and a profile in OBS Studio that captures both the recording microphone and the headset microphone to two separate streams, and then I duplicated the device captures to add the RNNoise filter. This allows me to have four separate streams, two per microphone with one being an unfiltered version and the other being with just RNNoise enabled. With an FFmpeg script I have the video removed from the recording, the audio converted to FLAC, and the audio made mono. (OBS Studio seems to only be able to record in stereo, even when the source is mono.) Much like with the notes above for the Kailh Box Jade switches, the Navies have a certain volume, tone, and sharpness to their sound that is simply nowhere to be found in the Mute Jade switches. The only similarity I would draw here is that they are tonally more similar than the Box Jades and Mute Jades due to the deeper and less high-pitched sound they share.

The BOX Silent switches also have a strange stem design. Instead of the typical BOX shape, they are circular. To keep Kailh Box Jade Switches performing at their best, it’s important to clean them regularly. Here are some tips for keeping your switches clean:

With an actuation point of 1.1mm, you will find that other activities such as typing will be a bit more uncomfortable. So beware! Kailh Silent Switches Color

Review:

Coming to the second sound test recording with OBS Studio and RNNoise, I want to first state that when I listen to when I am speaking and typing with RNNoise enabled I can still hear the Box Jades, but they are clearly and significantly muffled compared to the unfiltered version. Similar to the Speed switches, we have found low-profile switchesto not have a noticeable impact on gaming reaction time.

Plus, you can’t really lubricate this type of switch as there is a hole in the bottom of the housing where it can leak out. Turning to the statistics, the MXL 990 recording mic saw a peak for the typing at -29.11 dB while my voice was at -16.591 dB, prior to amplifying to -3 dB as I described in the previous paragraph. Using the contrast tool, the difference was 19.71 RMS dB, regardless of if the audio was amplified or not. Amplification is a linear transformation of the audio and I do apply it to the entire recording. In any case, without amplification my voice was at -39.92 RMS dB (-26.33 RMS dB with) and the typing at -59.62 RMS dB (-46.03 RMS dB with). For the statistics, without amplification and using the recording microphone my voice peaked at -10.508 dB while my typing peaked at -36.793 dB, without RNNoise enabled. With RNNoise enabled the peak was -16.356 dB and the typing was -36.793 dB. With the contrast tool, without RNNoise enabled my voice was at -36.85 RMS dB and my typing at -53.07 RMS dB for a difference of 16.22 RMS dB. With RNNoise enabled, my voice was at -42.92 RMS dB, my typing at -78.58 RMS dB, for a difference of 35.65 RMS dB, which is huge. Decibels are a logarithmic unit, not a linear one, so the actual difference here is far more than half. Kailh Box Jade Switches are a new switch brand that is making a big name for itself in the keyboard community. Kailh Box switches are known for their quiet and smooth operation, as well as their long lifespan. Heavier switches are better for gaming because they offer more resistance and require more force to activate. Lighter switches are better for typing because they’re easier to press down and don’t require as much force. For stem wobble, there is some, but not much. Along the North-South line the stem can move a noticeable amount between my fingers, though I do not think it is enough to be concerned about. Along the West-East line there is some movement, but it is far less, basically just enough to tell the stem is able to move. Remember, to ensure the stem can freely move up and down there will be some space for it to wobble in the housing. I originally wrote this about 6 months ago and lost my references. Feel free to validate this, I'll edit or strike it out if these values aren't accurate.)
