About this deal

If you use the Hama Beads in a classic way by mounting the beads on a bead pegboard, the next step is to iron the beads to complete the figure. When you iron the beads, they melt into one solid figure. When you used this method, you can reuse the pegboard, and use it for new patterns, animals, plants or other figures. In Hama Universe, a version of the free and limitless play awaits for your child with empty pegboards and three challenging theme islands where your child can make the classic Hama patterns. If you don't want to commit to buying too many supplies, or you are buying a gift for someone as an introduction to Hama beads, you might want to think about starting with a kit. There are so many available, and I've put a selection below. Some of the kits have very specific theming, for example based around Disney characters, and others are more general. In my experience the kits contain far more beads that you will need for the projects suggested, so if you find a kit on sale then it can be a good value way of building up your Hama bead collection.

In Hama Universe, a version of the free and limitless game awaits for your child with empty pegplates and three challenging theme islands where he or she can make the classic Hama patterns. It's a matter of personal preference as to how much you iron the beads. I like to leave the holes in the beads visible but some people like a smoother look. Just be careful not to over iron as this will make the beads impossible to remove from the board, and may warp and damage the board. It will now be possible to play with beads in the rear seat of the car or in surroundings far away from the analogue beads of the play room. With Hama Universe, your child can play with beads, also when on the go. Your child will be presented with the play that enhances fine motor skills as you know it. Where beads are placed on the pegboards, patterns must be reproduced and beads must be “ironed”. Hama Universe supports creative play and enhances the child's concentration, creative abilities and desire to make things. Your child is allowed to create colourful and impressive islands, where bead designs make a magical scene where only the imagination sets the limits. If you are looking to buy a pegboard or two I'd recommend starting with a square, hexagonal and circular board as these will allow you to create a wide range of designs. The pegboards can be used over and over again, as long as you are careful not to over iron your projects (see more ironing tips for Hama beads below) A few of these patterns are larger than a 29 x 29 pegboard, so you’ll either need a extra large pegboard(49 x 69 tall) or to put multiple square peg boards together to form a larger “canvas.” Hama beads can be expensive and sometimes it's tempting to look at the cheaper non-branded alternatives. In general I'd advise steering clear of these imitations, as the quality is very poor and they can be difficult and disappointing to work with.

Hama Universe is designed for children aged 5-7 years as the primary target group, but Hama Universe is also for all others who like the creative fun with beads. I've suggested below a few Hama bead products below that are great for beginners, and you might also want to take a look at my Hama bead gift guide for some more Hama bead inspiration. Be aware that there may be a risk of suffocation if children get the beads in their mouths. As a rule of thumb, children should only play with beads together with an adult. How to iron your Hama beads

Success!

In addition to square pegboards, you’ll see round and hexagon pegboards. These are fun to have in your arsenal if you plan to do a lot of perler-ing. Hama Midi Beads is a tube of about 5 mm in diameter and is the most famous size bead from the Hama bead series. It is recommended for children aged 5 years and over. The midi bead can be ironed and sewn on things. You can put them on a string and make great Hama beads bracelet. Hama Midi is the most versatile bead, as you can make all the patterns and motifs you want. Motifs like fun animals, great fairies, cool cars, lovely princesses and everything else you can imagine. The Hama Midi Bead is the most used bead in institutions and schools. Hama Midi allows you to get more color shades and details in your characters. Together with your children you can play with beads and create beautiful shapes for decorations or presents. Hama Universe welcomes to many hours of entertainment in a fun and developing framework where your child can immerse itself in a constructive and entertaining play.

I typically start with easier, smaller patterns in my list and then move on to the more advanced ones. You’ll see several different versions of ghosts, witches, pumpkins, etc. with increasingly larger patterns; just keep scrolling! Hama beads are available in three different sizes - Maxi, Midi and Mini. The Maxi beads have a diameter of 10 mm and are aimed at young children completing their first Hama bead projects. The Midi beads measure 5 mm in diameter and are the most common size of bead. These are the beads that I most often work with, and they are suitable for both children and adults to use. The smallest beads are the Mini beads, and with a diameter of 2.5 mm they really are very tiny. It's easiest to manipulate them with tweezers, and they are definitely more suited to teenagers and adults as they are very fiddly to use. Once you have your supplies, it's time to start designing. You can choose to follow a pre-made Cars pattern or create your own design from scratch. Either way, it's important to plan out your design before you start placing beads on the pegboard. Hama Universe is the digitisation of Hama's colourful bead play, where children can explore the pirate, princess and circus islands. Here they can play with different patterns and let their creativity flourish. I have also bought Perler branded beads when on holiday in the US and found that these work very well, although they are slightly more brittle in texture once ironed. Perler beads are available in a wider range of unusual colours as well as striped beads, so they are good for adding a bit of interest to a piece. To get started on your Cars Hama bead project, you will need a few supplies: Hama beads in various colors, a pegboard, ironing paper, and an iron. You can find these supplies at a craft store or online. Hama Maxi Beads are the biggest size beads found in the Hama bead series and measure 10 mm in diameter. Hama Maxi Beads can be used by children aged 3 years and over. Playing with beads is a fun sedentary indoor activity that you can do all year. When the child is playing with beads, it practices recognizing colors and fine motor control. You can learn the child about the colors and their many shades. The child also learns to grab and hold on small objects like the small beads, and finally, the child also understands and learns about shapes. Animals, plants, and cars can be made of big beads. The Hama beads can be ironed and sewn on things as decoration. However an exception is the Picture Beads sold by Hobbycraft. I've used lots of these Hama style beads and found that they are nearly as good as branded Hama beads. Hobbycraft sell their beads in mixed bags of related colours, like blues and greens, and they are much cheaper, especially if you catch them on special offer. They are exactly the same size as branded Hama beads and can be used interchangeably with your Hama beads and Hama branded pegboards.

Hama Universe welcomes to many hours of entertainment in a fun and developing framework where your child can immerse himself or herself in a constructive and entertaining game. If you are new to Hama beads I would recommend starting with the Midi beads. You can buy these beads in large tubs of beads in a range of colours, and the tubs often include a few pegboards to get you started. Creating a Cars Hama bead project is a great activity for car enthusiasts of all ages. You can choose to create a simple car design or go all out with a detailed, lifelike depiction of your favorite vehicle. It will now be possible to play with beads in the rear seat of the car or in surroundings far away from the analogue beads of the play room.Hama beads, also known as Perler beads, are small, colorful plastic beads that can be arranged on a pegboard to create a wide range of designs and images. They are a popular craft activity for both children and adults, and are a great way to unleash your creativity and make something unique. Hama Universe supports creative play and enhances the child's concentration, creative abilities and desire to make things. Your child is allowed to create colourful and impressive islands, where pegplates make a magical scene where only the imagination sets the limits.
