Trianni, Francesca (October 7, 2013). "Tech Breakthroughs in Film: From House of Wax to Gravity". Time . Retrieved November 14, 2014. I've seen space adventure done better in B-movies of the 1950s. Above all, this film is mis-titled. It takes place in free fall, therefore 'gravity' plays no role in it! A better title would have been 'Action and Reaction.' But the writers clearly didn't understand such a deep concept. So they went with Gravity because it seemed catchy. Ugh.

In 2008, funding ran out on a project entitled A Boy and His Shoe written by Cuarón and his son Jonás. They wrote a first draft of what would become Gravity in three weeks. After they finished the screenplay, Cuarón attempted to develop his project at Universal Pictures, where it stayed in development hell. [42] When co-chairmen Marc Shmuger and David Linde were ousted from Universal in 2009, Cuarón asked for the project to be released, and then Warner Bros Pictures chief Jeff Robinov stepped in. After the rights to the project were sold, it began development at Warner Bros. Three years later, when the movie was still unfinished, Robinov was let go. [15] [43] [44] Gravity is not designed as a comedy, but at times it is difficult not to laugh. The most notable of these is the utterly ludicrous deus ex machina scene in which Stone’s dead colleague, played by George Clooney, appears in a hallucination and conveniently tells her exactly which buttons to press to escape, reminds her that life is worth living, and then disappears. In 2014, author Tess Gerritsen filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. for breach of contract, alleging that the film Gravity is an adaptation of her 1999 novel of the same name. [45] The suit was dismissed twice in 2015. [46] [47] Writing [ edit ] Seventh, Drama and suspense, WHERE, you are told that the satellite debris will be around ever 90 minutes, the astronauts set their timers for the count down so again that's NEVER a surprise not only that, it's camera shot debris coming, look at watch. NO suspense. As a result, “Gravity” puts you completely on edge, starting with type on the screen that explains that way out there, “there is nothing to carry sound. No air pressure. No oxygen. Life in space is impossible.”

Arguably the best tagline for a movie EVER, "In space no one can hear you scream" Alien's "In space no one can hear you scream" tagline is arguably the best tagline for a movie of all-time. That same tagline could easily be effectively utilized for Alfonso Cuarón's latest thriller, Gravity. But while the core story of “Gravity” is pure genre down to the workmanlike nature of chunks of its dialogue, it makes the most of that situation by having a formidable narrative drive, a plot smartly worked out to the smallest, most persuasive detail, and an intense, immersive score and sound design by composer Steven Price. Fourth, where points could have been made to make you want to care about anyone in the movie they don't bother. Clooney's character keeps telling "Mission Control" stories for the most part that they've heard about his life. We haven't heard them and you never do. His character is only concerned about getting a record for the longest un-tethered space walk. Vikaas, Kishwer (October 18, 2013). "Q&A with 'Gravity"s Other Star: UK Actor Phaldut Sharma". Although Gravity is often considered to be a science fiction film, [26] Cuarón told the BBC that he does not, rather seeing it as "a drama of a woman in space". [27] According to him, the main theme of the film was "adversity" [18] and he uses the debris as a metaphor for this. [16] Many others have pointed out what a stinker this film is, but no amount of criticism is truly enough. So I'm adding my own. a b c Scott, A.O. (October 3, 2013). "Between Earth and Heaven". The New York Times. Archived from the original on October 4, 2013 . Retrieved November 20, 2013.

Peter Travers of Rolling Stone gave the film four out of four stars, stating that the film was "more than a movie. It's some kind of miracle." [109] A. O. Scott, writing for The New York Times, highlighted the use of 3-D which he said, "surpasses even what James Cameron accomplished in the flight sequences of Avatar". Scott also said that the film "in a little more than 90 minutes rewrites the rules of cinema as we have known them". [31] Quentin Tarantino said it was one of his top ten films of 2013. [110] Empire, Time and Total Film ranked the film as the best of 2013. [111] [112] [113] Child, Ben (July 22, 2013). "Comic-Con 2013: five things we learned". The Guardian. London. Retrieved January 1, 2014.I was so extravagantly impressed by the portrayal of the reality of zero gravity. Going through the space station was done just the way that I've seen people do it in reality. The spinning is going to happen—maybe not quite that vigorous—but certainly we've been fortunate that people haven't been in those situations yet. I think it reminds us that there really are hazards in the space business, especially in activities outside the spacecraft. [139] What else is there to say? Gravity is my favourite film of all time, everyone who knows me knows that I adore this film, I physically cannot find a flaw. It's a masterpiece. Unfortunately it's a film that a lot of people like to hate and sure everyone has their opinions, but hating a film just because it's highly rated is not an excuse. So if you haven't seen Gravity, go out to the shop, but the 3D Blu-ray, but a massive TV with surround sound and enjoy it. No thanks necessary, you are all very welcome! Orto Ignatiussen (voice) as Aningaaq, [14] a Greenlandic Inuk fisherman who intercepts one of Stone's transmissions. Aningaaq also appears in an eponymous short, written and directed by Gravity co-writer Jonás Cuarón, which depicts the conversation between him and Stone from his perspective. [23] [24] Filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón deserves a standing ovation for his film is a visual masterpiece. You know you have watched a film of this caliber when you keep asking yourself throughout, ‘How did they do it’! The four and a half years of production work pay off, as you can tell every frame is painstakingly made. Beaumont-Thomas, Ben (February 2, 2015). With that being said, 'Gravity' has much more to it than the visuals and direction. The music is an incredible fit, it's haunting, sweeping and breathtakingly beautiful. A good deal of the story is gripping, with intimacy, tension and great emotional impact. Observations on film art". davidbordwell.net. November 12, 2013. Archived from the original on October 8, 2014 . Retrieved November 28, 2014. Oh, and it's a 3D conversion. Yup, given the way the film had to be shot and produced, the majority of what you're seeing on screen was not captured live and in camera. It was either created in 3D, digitally, or post converted. This is why you should only judge the quality of content and not a certain process of filmmaking. For me, the use of 3D in 'Life of Pi' was a little more revelatory, but 'Gravity - 3D' is eye popping. Truly a window into another world. And, for me, trying to watch the 2D version after seeing the 3D is a bit of a disappointment. Aningaaq". YouTube. November 21, 2013. Archived from the original on May 13, 2016 .
