About this deal

Characterizing Kratos as being uncaring about Freya and Baldur's conflict and only intervening because Atreus cares about her feels sharply contrasted to the fact that he actually seemed really chill with Freya in the game after she saved Atreus and very much read as invested in the conflict SPECIFICALLY because it mirrored his own past. As with all of my projects, this book has a huge variety of recipes with a wide variety of difficulty among them. If you are looking for a place to start, here are a few wonderful recipes to try. The book starts on the hunting expedition and not Faye's funeral. This was probably for time constraints, but it does kind of remove the somber, contemplative game start that made the GoW opening so emotionally impactful (especially compared to the other games).

Avoid this book like the plague and just play the game instead. It's the same thing but without the boredom factor. I have a feeling that I can easily sit here writing about my love for this game and this book, but I don't want to extend this review for that much longer. Still I want to mention some of the characters that make this story memorable and that played a part in it. There is a story in God of War. The story has twists, poignant moments, and most of all: creates a framework on which to hang a masterful game. Even the banal video-game-y moments of the game (paddling a canoe to your next location) are made charming by incidental dialogue between the characters. You've never heard a fable until you've heard Kratos mangle it.

Let’s start with what this book is. An adaptation of the videogame God of War (2018), also known as God of War 4. It’s a reboot of a well-beloved franchise and it follows the journey of Kratos, a former Spartan soldier enslaved by Greek Gods, and his child son Atreus, in their pursuit of fulfilling Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother’s last wish: take her ashes to the highest peak of all realms. This story takes place not in a Greek world, but rather a Norse one. Kratos, as a former Greek god, is an intruder in the Norse mythology, and as always, he’s messing up with pantheons and such. God of War as a concept was not something I gave attention to. There were games followed by more games at first headline grabbing then declining into convoluted iteration as the series grew older. Most of all, I did not have a Playstation.

This book will probably be loved by someone who has played the game. For someone who hasn't, maybe not as much. When Faye unexpectedly dies years later Kratos is suddenly left behind with his son, with who he shares a troubled bond. Before Faye died she had told Kratos that she wanted her ashes to be scattered from the highest peak in all of the realms. Kratos thinks that Atreus is inexperienced and young, and not ready to partake such a venture, but he has no other choice than to take him with him. Kratos needs to honor the wishes of his late wife. The book needs you to have played the game. I know few people are going to read it without having played it, because let’s face it, this book is for fans of the franchise – or for people who love Kratos but can’t afford the game/console. And that enrages me so, because this book is insulting to the game and to fans.If I hadn’t played the game, I wouldn’t have understood half of it and the rating would be so much lower right now. Because this book doesn’t stand alone at all. There are many main courses throughout the book. The Kofta (pg 51) and Venison Stew (pg 132) are perfect starting points. They don’t require too much work to prepare and have relatively simple cooking steps. I’m sure many of you are going to be eyeing the Freakin’ Gratitude recipe (pg 108). It is labeled as a medium difficulty recipe because of working with such a large chunk of meat. I do think it is a perfectly fine recipe to start with; just make sure to not divert too far from the recipe to avoid any issues. I have been a fan of God of war since it came out, played all the games in all the platforms, the story is amazing, and when i heard there was a novelization of the last game I did not hesitate in getting it.
