About this deal

MAKES ROOTS GROW STRONGER – Stronger and deeper root systems result in better plant growth, better crops and healthier and improved soils.

The best plants to use blood and bone for maximum productivity are veggies, like tomatoes, peppers, and aubergines, which really do benefit from the iron and calcium, which will enhance flavour and help them to fight off both fungal and bacterial infections throughout the season. Blood and bone is ideal for roses, and can help to supplement other fertilisers and mulches like rotted cow or horse manure. Its gentle release of nutrients is soft enough to not impact the roses in their early spring stage but will support flower health and help blooms last longer on the plant, as well as when cut.

Aftercare

My pet hate is liquid fertilisers that are so strong, they burn the foliage or, worse, get washed away as soon as it rains. Fish, blood and bone fertiliser is perfect as it fully dissolves in about 3-4 weeks and provides gradually released nutrients to the plants without burning them. Blood Fish & Bone is an organic-based general purpose plant food which provides the major nutrients required for strong healthy growth. This granular fertiliser contains three active ingredients - nitrogen, phosphate and potassium. The nitrogen encourages strong growth and green, rich foliage whilst the slow release phosphate increases root growth.

Most types of flowers, fruit and vegetables benefit greatly from this product. How often should I use fish, blood and bone? In the growing season: If you're adding bone meal throughout the growing season, sprinkle evenly around established part of the soil and gently fork it into the surface. Be careful not to disturb plant roots as you do so. Water thoroughly.A build-up of mulch can produce a hard layer, which is difficult for water to penetrate. Avoid this by only replacing mulch when it has rotted away or fork the remaining mulch into the soil

Compound fertilisers: These contain a mixture of different nutrients, and may be balanced (containing similar proportions of all the major plant nutrients) or may supply more of some nutrients than others, as per the requirements of different crops. They may be organic or inorganic, or contain both. Fertilisers aren’t the only way to help soil maintain nutrients and keep plants growing healthily. Before the 19th century, most farmers fertilised crops using more basic organic techniques, such as using manure or planting legumes with nitrogen-fixing bacteria in their roots. Meanwhile, greater awareness of environmental issues has made growers consider returning to more nature-friendly ways of growing. Our Nutrient World report. Prepared by the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management Global Overview on Nutrient Management in collaboration with the International Nitrogen Initiative wedocs.unep.org/handle/20.500.11822/10747Blood and bone is an impressive slow-release fertiliser, with long-lasting effects that can take some time to show their impact. For that reason, it’s important not to over-feed pots, and use it sparingly, with a small sprinkle (about 1 tablespoon) per pot.
