while I agree that money means nothing in terms of defining the pinnacle of the sport, I disagree with some of your other statements. While taken as a whole the history of F1 is here, it isn't written as a single history but as a lot of important events, as the subtitle mentions. But with the seven sections of the book (Sporting, Circuits, Technical, Controversies, Safety, Personalities, and Commercial) it is almost like getting seven histories of the sport, each from a different perspective. When Prost signed for Williams in 1993, he had a clause included in his contract that his teammate could not be Senna. Williams has by far the best car and gives Prost his fourth and final title. Senna comes to Williams the following year but crashed in the fourth race during the Grand Prix of San Marino, which tragically resulted in his death. Technical changes aimed at levelling the playing field for the teams combined with the sport’s tightening budget cap have made the races closer than ever. There will be more sprint races – trialled in 2021 – and greater fan interest driven by Netflix’s hugely successful ‘Drive to Survive’ series.

Formula 1 is a very fine machine, that is for sure, but is it enough to say that Formula1 is the highest category of racing? Its where the money, fame, glamour, and status is - its where players aspire to go. There might be more competitive leagues in other countries, there may be more fundamental basketball being played elsewhere, but the NBA is still the number one show. Its also about how tough it takes to get into "the club". The competition to get in is tough, and to be recognised as a 'great' is even tougher. To manage a basketball team may be just as tough - from marketing, recruiting, salaries, to managing the huge egos. But I must say that this argument is a bit over the edge, as no F1 team took own car to Indy and raced.

Sebastian Ogier has had several circuit racing appearances and has generally been average. Was way off the pace in DTM. Since we've already established that DTM is worse than F1, F1 > WRC.Sure we have Ferrari and McLaren who keep underperforming a bit when you contrast to their budgets, regularly getting beaten by respectively similarly resourced Mercedes and Red Bull, but it doesn't change the big picture. I would go as far as arguing that the Haas and JordanMidlandSpykerForceIndiaRacingPoint teams are doing a much better job than Ferrari and McLaren as racing teams, with building competitive cars with very small resources. But in the long term their grit won't be rewarded, they will simply never* be able to be beat those 2 just due to the sheer amount of money and manpower the big boys have.

F1 is a monster evolving everyday, with a lot to lose and very little to earn for most of the teams. The new revenue distribution criteria must be more balanced, based on meritocracy of the current performance and reward success for the teams and the Commercial Rights Holder.
