History [ edit ] The March Hare and the Hatter put the Dormouse's head in a teapot. Illustration by John Tenniel.

The owners of a new Derbyshire book shop have spoken of how they are providing additional support to local schoolchildren, as well as providing for the literature needs of locals of all ages. Steph Limb, 40, originally from Heanor, and her friend and colleague Tracy Beardmore, 48, live in Holbrook and opened their dream independent bookshop on Market Place, Belper on September 3. The Dormouse is a character in "A Mad Tea-Party", Chapter VII [1] from the 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. If the proposal is likely to affect hazel dormice, the developer must apply for a hazel dormice mitigation licence. The Dormouse appears as a member of the Mad T Party band at Disneyland's California Adventure Park. In the Mad T Party he is interpreted as a male rather than the 2010 film's female Mallymkun, who he is based on. He plays lead guitar and often scurries around with the March Hare on stage. [6]

Hazel dormice are listed as rare and most threatened species under Section 41 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act (2006). You must have regard for the conservation of Section 41 species as part of your planning decision. Find out more about your biodiversity duty.

Conservation decisions are typically constrained by the availability of published evidence. Practitioners and non‐academic experts often possess additional knowledge, including about the practical plausibility of conservation actions, which may lead to more effective planning and outcomes. However, practitioner knowledge is rarely considered during formal evidence syntheses. The course gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a new subject and acquire novel skills. Our online portal gives you time to study at your own pace and fit the lessons around your own schedule. The Mammal Society sells a range of equipment through WildCare. On offer through the shop is both the dormouse tube and insertand the footprint tunnel. In Tim Burton's 2010 Alice in Wonderland film, the Dormouse is a small, female mouse named Mallymkun. Unlike the sleepy character in the book, this Dormouse is an action-oriented swordfighter in training similar to the character Reepicheep from The Chronicles of Narnia. She is voiced by Barbara Windsor. [2] distribution and historical records suggest dormice may be present - you can search the National Biodiversity Network Atlas by species and location

Despite the insights they provided, participants highlighted many remaining knowledge gaps. These included uncertainties arising from the published literature, as well as scarcely studied topics that are of major practical importance, namely the effectiveness of dormouse mitigation measures in planning and development, and the impacts of anthropogenic disturbance and pollution on dormice. Who should attend? –This course is suitable for anyone who has a strong interest in this species, but the course is particularly relevant for professional ecologists and land managers. There is something so peaceful about setting foot in a bookshop that makes it a place you’re happy to while away time. Screens hold such a special part of our attention that books are often left on the side. Catching up with TV (Strictly now for me) means prioritising moving image- especially if you’re talking about it with people at work or your family. Autumn however brings a real sense of hibernation and hunkering down (epitomised by Dormouse Books’ sweet little logo). It makes sense therefore to have National Bookshop day at the advent of harvest. If you’re a regular reader who tends to get out of the habit (hello!) or someone with a voracious appetite who reads one after the other, then these wonderfully independent bookshops will be your bag. Recommendations (‘I’ve read this… what shall I try next?’), undiscovered gems as well as classics: it still amazes me that there are still so many stories and voices to be read. The Dormouse was referenced in the fantasy series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, a spin-off of Once Upon a Time. In the pilot episode, the White Rabbit misled Alice and the Knave of Hearts in saying that, while having tea with the Dormouse, he learned that Alice's true love Cyrus was alive. In reality, he received this information from the Red Queen. You may need a qualified ecologist to advise you on the planning application and supporting evidence. You can find one using either the: The Dormouse is always falling asleep during the scene, waking up every so often, for example to say: If you have a group of 10 or more individuals wanting to complete one of our courses, our team are available to discuss your options – from discounts to private team courses. Find out more! The hazel or common dormouse has undergone a significant decline during the last century and are now described as vulnerable to extinction in Britain’s Red List. Their conservation depends on accurate data from surveys and sympathetic habitat management. They are fully protected under UK and European Law.
