About this deal

Dead by Daylight: The Board Game contains high quality and carefully crafted game components including figures, cards with illustrations from the game and a game board representing the game field. The design of the figurines and game components is faithful to the video game original, and the characters' skills have identical graphics to their video game counterparts. The campaign has two tiers of pledge reflecting the standard and collector's edition, the latter featuring over twice the content of the base game. He does everything he can to thwart the efforts of the survivors, with his goal being to capture and sacrifice all players to the mysterious entity that holds everyone in the arena. There are multiple killers in the game, and each has their own special abilities that allow them to devise different strategies and plans for killing others. All players select their moves for the turn simultaneously, and reveal them one by one as the round progresses. The Killer always goes last, and gets to take two turns—this allows them a lot of leeway to react to the Survivors, and makes the reveal tense until the very last second. We’ve talked about the objection for each role in general, but how exactly does one side win? Survivors plan their actions at the start of each turn which can include moving from space to space depending on their movement cards, interacting with props such as generators to gain progression on them, or use their perks. Killers also plan their actions at the start of their turn, but they typically get two turns per round. This echoes the slight speed difference in the video game in which the killers are usually at least slightly faster than survivors.

Dead by Daylight™: The Board Game brings the authentic Dead by Daylight experience to life on your table. For the first time, you can play the internationally acclaimed game of hide-and-seek between Killers and Survivors in person! Each character, Killer or Survivor, has a set of special actions they can use called perks. Each of these perks has a cost in Bloodpoints that's needed to activate it. Perks let you bend and break the rules of the game, and ensure that each character plays differently. Items are cards with various effects intended to help Survivors keep the Killer at bay and progress through the map. Dead by Daylight fans will recognize and appreciate the memorable items like the flashlights, the maps, the toolboxes, and the keys. Each item’s effect mimics the video game version’s effect to a certain degree. Objective Props are generators and exit doors. These are the props that Survivors will use to win the game. The board game will feature a miniature figurine of all non-licensed killers and survivors from the original game. Altruism Props are pallets and crows. These are useful to the Survivors as a team, and strategic use of these resources is critical to their victory. The game's board is divided into zones, and each turn, you will move between zones—either to discover new interactive props as a Survivor, or to hunt down Survivors as the Killer. The killer must catch and sacrifice survivors to achieve victory, interacting with survivors in their space to wound them - a second wound results in capture. As in the video game, the killer must carry caught survivors to a hook, with every hooked survivor granting a victory point at the end of the turn. In place of the chance to wiggle free while caught in the video game, survivors must roll dice based on the distance to the closest hook, granting them the opportunity to escape before they’re hooked.

10. Gameplay & Goals

This is a fanmade version of the Dead By Daylight Board Game, developed by Level 99 Games and designed by David B. Talton Jr.

Today we're showing off the rulebook for Dead by Daylight™: The Board Game! Come and see how the game is played. As a Survivor, plot your moves, coordinate with your allies, and repair generators to power the exit and escape. A true asymmetric game, where one Killer takes on a team of 2–4 Survivors in a tense showdown of wits and strategy. Experienced players can customize their characters with unique builds, for an ever-evolving play experience. The game board contains a random distribution of props. Most actions in the game require characters to interact with props, and these props come in 4 different categories. When an adaptation of any source material gets created, the first thing fans question is its dedication to the original. Have no fear. The board game retains Dead by Daylight’s iconic asymmetrical play style with one player assuming the role of the Killer and between two and four other players becoming Survivors. If they don't move, they can't interact. If you try to stay in your same space, you don't get to use the props in that space again,” Talton explained. “We want to keep everybody on the run all the time. That was something that's not technically mirrored in the video game, but it's something that makes for a really good board game experience.” Level 99 have managed to perfectly adapt the Dead by Daylight experience to a board game: the Killers VS Survivors asymmetrical gameplay, the unexpected surprises, the game loops, everything is there. And with almost all original characters present, all the different perks there's a lot to discover and love in this," said Mathieu Côté, game director of Dead by Daylight. Level 99 confirmed to Dicebreaker that no licensed characters will make an appearance in the board game; the video game has seen the inclusion of figures from movies such as Halloween’s Michael Myers and A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Kreuger, as well as video games in the form of Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head and Resident Evil’s Jill, Claire, Leon and Chris.

The only downside I can potentially see is that the game is virtually random dice-free and is all about planning and tactics, thus experienced players are able to make it for an inexperienced killer incredibly hard. But the game also keeps this in mind and recommends that the most experienced player always play the killer. The Killers and Survivors are drawn from the original cast of the game and include the complete roster, up until the All-Kill DLC (March 2021). They're all represented through detailed miniatures, with the collector's edition also including miniature hooks and generators. A digital rendering of the game. The fact the board game captured Trapper's game plan so perfectly, and how my other games as Wraith and Hag maintain the feel of those characters surprisingly well... I have to say I heartily recommend it... it's really cool, and I've been annoying my board games group everytime we meet by subtly hinting at throwing it out again xD

Developer Behaviour Interactive has partnered with Level 99 Games, acclaimed publisher of video game-inspired board and card games, to create a board game based on the hit multiplayer horror.
