About this deal

Raising the Dead – Director Zach Snyder along with David Anderson tell how their limited time of “creating the undead” took place and how these creations ultimately made it into the film. Released: 22nd March 2021. George A. Romero's classic low budget horror and sequel to 'Night of the Living Dead' where the dead now roam the entire American continent, feeding off the flesh of the living. TV reporter Francine (Gaylen Ross), her boyfriend Stephen (David Emge) and two SWAT team cops seek refuge in a deserted shopping mall. However, despite their best efforts their temporary haven is put in jeopardy when a gang of marauding bikers tear down the barricades thus allowing the undead to infiltrate the shopping mall. Dawn of the Dead was originally finished on a 2K DI and that’s been the source for past home video releases, but for this outing, a new 4K scan of the negative was issued for this Dolby Vision HDR 4K UHD release. Per the reported specs, the unrated footage has been upscaled from the 2K DI, not sure of the wherewithal for that, but without already knowing the theatrical cut so well, with HDR I could barely tell the difference for those brief scene extensions and small sequences. Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0 Mono - New restoration of the original OCN Optical / DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

Deleted Scenes – Nearly a dozen minutes’ worth and all are available with commentary by Director Zach Snyder and Producer Eric Newman. These aren’t like the “modern” deleted scenes with individual scenes names, rather it’s just a hodgepodge of scenes in varying degrees of quality. The commentary does help, however. Sarah to her part and to bringing her character to life (without zombies getting in her life's way – joke intended). Jake Weber is also cinematography. For a film that takes place predominantly in a mall, the cinematographer had a big challenge and the results are surprisingly

This isn’t the first time Dawn... has been resurrected on BD, or even 4K BD. Did you look at previous releases for comparison? It has an interesting edit history, too. Fellow horror legend Dario Argento helped finance the film in exchange for international distribution rights, leading to his own alternate cut. Romero himself trimmed it down following its Cannes Festival premiere for its US theatrical release. Each cut (Theatrical, Extended 'Cannes' and Argento) are presented in 4K on

The cinematography by Matthew F. Leonetti ( Strange Days, The Butterfly Effect) is gritty and stylish all at once. The Often heralded as a zombie masterpiece and considered instrumental in popularizing the genre around the world, George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead is widely appreciated as one of the best and most influential horror films. Four decades later, the plot's themes on modernity and consumerism remain as poignant and relevant as ever, still offering plenty for viewers to chew on and discuss.

Dolby Vision doesn’t veer from that style, but instead enhances the vibrancy. Note this can and will alter contrast. Skylines take on a yellowed or orange tint, as if always at sundown. Teal becomes dominate once settled in the mall, driving the color to a strict, almost monochrome tone indoors. George A. UHD DISC 1: THE THEATRICAL CUT visual sensibilities of Dawn of the Dead are fantastic fun. The use of lighting is remarkable and the film showcases a beautiful sense ofThere's often plenty of detail here, but the crispness of the presentation varies. There are occasional shots where foreground elements appear soft, a by-product of Romero's extensive multi-angle shoot and all those zombies rolling about. Often, however, it's strking who fresh and detailed this 42-year-old film feels. There’s plentiful gloss to this do-over, giving the action more splatter while updating character archetypes. So little of Dawn of the Dead matters though, just an aimless zombie excursion whose best moments come during the introduction. Ana (Sarah Polley) sees her daughter and husband turned as she makes a frantic escape from her upper middle class, suburban development. She’s given one moment to briefly grieve, then hardens up, because to feel emotion is a weakness. 9/11 happened three years earlier. To Dawn of the Dead, time to move on from the horror. That’s how America sorts its shit out. It'll be interesting to see what the launch of the PlayStation 5 does for UHD disc numbers. I think people currently buying standard BDs will find it to be a logical progression.
