Bara, Mike (2019). The Triangle: The truth behind the world's most enduring mystery. Kempton, IL: Adventures Unlimited. p.191. ASIN B07SVG79C5. All we can say is we don’t know what happened for sure – and we should try to learn more. Usually when we learn more, the mystery disappears.

But though the mechanism itself makes sense, there’s no evidence of any recent methane release from the area around the Bermuda Triangle. The last time anything similar happened in the region was around 15,000 years ago , according to U.S. Geological Survey geologist Bill Dillon. People have been trying to solve the “mystery” of the Bermuda Triangle for years. Here’s what we know (and don’t know) about the Bermuda Triangle. What is known about the Bermuda Triangle: U.S. Navy Historical C/ The Bermuda Triangle: Startling New Secrets, Sci Fi Channel documentary (November 2005)The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle, sits in the North Atlantic Ocean, roughly between Bermuda, Florida, and Puerto Rico. Although many commercial airlines and ships pass through the region now, there has always been an air of mystery attached to the region. Berlitz aims to prove that the Bermuda Triangle is connected to the mythical lost city of Atlantis, and this explains why so many vessels and aircraft disappear. HyperWar: Findings of the Board of Investigation Into the Loss of Flight 19 (Bermuda Triangle)". www.ibiblio.org. Archived from the original on June 16, 2017 . Retrieved April 11, 2018. Collier Cyclops Is Lost; 293 Persons On Board; Enemy Blow Suspected", The Washington Post, April 15, 1918. The incident resulting in the single largest loss of life in the history of the US Navy not related to combat occurred when the collier Cyclops, carrying a full load of manganese ore and with one engine out of action, went missing without a trace with a crew of 306 sometime after March 4, 1918, after departing the island of Barbados. Although there is no strong evidence for any single theory, many independent theories exist, some blaming storms, some capsizing, and some suggesting that wartime enemy activity was to blame for the loss. [51] [52] In addition, two of Cyclops 's sister ships, Proteus and Nereus, were subsequently lost in the North Atlantic during World War II. Both ships were transporting heavy loads of metallic ore similar to that which was loaded on Cyclops during her fatal voyage. [53] In all three cases structural failure due to overloading with a much denser cargo than designed is considered the most likely cause of sinking.

Compass problems are one of the cited phrases in many Triangle incidents. While some have theorized that unusual local magnetic anomalies may exist in the area, [29] such anomalies have not been found. Compasses have natural magnetic variations in relation to the magnetic poles, a fact which navigators have known for centuries. Magnetic (compass) north and geographic (true) north are exactly the same only for a small number of places – for example, as of 2000 [update], in the United States, only those places on a line running from Wisconsin to the Gulf of Mexico. [30] But the public may not be as informed, and think there is something mysterious about a compass "changing" across an area as large as the Triangle, which it naturally will. We don’t know where we are, the water is green, no white. Mayell, Hillary (15 December 2003). "Bermuda Triangle: Behind the Intrigue". National Geographic News. National Geographic Society. Another common explanation for the Bermuda Triangle rests on magnetism. The Earth’s magnetic North Pole isn’t the same as its geographic North Pole , which means that compasses usually don’t point exactly north. Only along what’s known as agonic lines, which line up magnetic and geographic north, are compasses truly accurate.

So, I rate this book two ways ... if I see it as a legit non-fiction book, 1 star... as entertainment, 3-stars :) Sometimes, when an event is hard to explain, it’s tempting to say it was caused by the paranormal or supernatural.

In all probability, however, there is no single theory that solves the mystery. As one skeptic put it, trying to find a common cause for every Bermuda Triangle disappearance is no more logical than trying to find a common cause for every automobile accident in Arizona.
