Apple claims that the Series 8 will last for 18 hours, and while it's not been particularly forward with its testing methodology, it looks like it’s expecting around 4 hours on LTE connection and 14 connected to an iPhone. In real world use, that number is likely to diminish further with time and use, as well as depending on how you use your watch. It’s hard to say anything new at all about the design of the Apple Watch 5 because it’s so similar to how the range has looked since its inception (the larger screen launched last year notwithstanding). Case and strap combinations can be made within collections (Apple Watch and Apple Watch Hermès) only. It's not possible to sign up for a separate Apple Watch Cellular plan away from your iPhone. Instead, say you're on AT&T, your Apple Watch needs to be on the plan too. You'll have a separately assigned number for your Apple Watch but it's an account assignment number rather than your usable phone number. All that said, with the launch of the Apple Watch 6, the company has discontinued the Watch 5 - that said, you can still get it from third-party retailers, theoretically for the prices above, though we'd expect to see it getting discounted soon.
To really make use of this feature, though, you need to activate the LTE data capabilities inside the phone (if you buy the more expensive Watch 5 variant), and this will cost more per month. Battery life is the biggest issue we encountered on the Watch 5, with the always-on display pulling more life out of the smartwatch. The Watch 4 could easily make it past 24 hours, but the Watch 5 struggles to match that, and we were definitely reaching for the charger more regularly here. However, while there aren’t any strong fitness upgrades with the Watch 5 (well, none at all, actually) it’s still a great watch for those who are into exercising. Apple Watch Series 5 and Apple Watch Series 3 have a water resistance rating of 50 meters under ISO standard 22810:2010. This means that they may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean. However, they should not be used for scuba diving, waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below shallow depth. Given that the Watch 4 is off-sale, the Watch 5 is simply an upgrade, with more storage, a compass and an always-on display… turn that off and it’s just a slightly-updated smartwatch for 2019.Where before we could make it to the evening, around 9-10pm, with 50% left, here we’d more often have around 5% less than that, with 40-45% in the tank. However, there are plenty of band options out there, with some limited to certain designations. Fortunately, you can swap them out, for a price. For example, if you go for the Aluminum Apple Watch and you want a Milanese loop, then you need to buy one separately.
