I could only feel for Mansi thoughout the book. I was never able to relate to Alka even though she was the main character. I only liked Mansi’s character in the book though she was only in a few chapters and hated how she was made to look like a monster towards the end. The book aims to present the life of a person who is not blessed with a lot of wealth right from the birth but manages everything in the right way by making decisions and choices worthy of an literate human. In A Place Called Home, Ambroz shares his personal journey out of a childhood marked by poverty, homelessness, and years in foster care – a story of courage, tenacity, and the power of education to transform lives.”

In the mid-1990s, he became a leading advocate for child welfare, and remains one to this day. In 2016, he was recognized by then-President Obama as an American Champion of Change, and Obama had this to say about him: "You will fall in love with David Ambroz, his beautifully-told, gut-wrenching story, and his great big heart." Preeti Shenoy is among the top five highest selling authors in India, is also on the Forbes longlist of the most influential celebrities in India. Matt Levett as Andrew Swanson (guest: season 6; regular: season 2; recurring: season 1), a somewhat-entitled heir apparent who tries to win the hand of Anna Bligh. I was really happy when her hard work started to pay off and somewhere thought I knew how it would end. And that is where I was wrong because life is unpredictable and the author has written a fairly realistic story. Deborah Kennedy as Doris Collins (regular: season 4–6; recurring: seasons 1–3), the most widely-known member of the Inverness village, who seems omnipresent on her bicycle. Although she means well, her gossiping ways can sometimes make her seem rude and intrusive. Sarah dislikes her at first, but as time goes on, finds her helpful as someone who always knows who has done what in the village.a b c d e f g h i j k "Characters". Yahoo!7. 4 May 2014. There isn't anything like money or status, just your heart should be big enough to give love to everyone. Whatever has to happen, happens. We’re all governed by destiny. I don’t think we control anything in our lives.Foster care certainly had its challenges for Ambroz and his siblings, but they had shelter, access to food, and some stability – and perhaps most important to the author, they began going to school on a regular basis. There are millions of homeless children in America today and in A Place Called Home, award-winning child welfare advocate David Ambroz writes about growing up homeless in New York for eleven years and his subsequent years in foster care, offering a window into what so many kids living in poverty experience every day. As the title suggests, this book is about finding your home, your comfort- a place where you can laugh and need not to take someone’s permission even to breathe. I love a true story where the downtrodden triumph over hardship—and A Place Called Home delivers. David Ambroz, through grit, courage, and integrity, overcomes obstacles beyond my imagination. I found myself cheering for him and the siblings he steadfastly protects, wondering how they were going to survive. David does more than that—he thrives—and then he pays it forward. A Place Called Home is an awe-inspiring story that will lift your spirits and soften even the hardest heart. It’s a beautifully told, captivating memoir.”— David Crow, author of The Pale-Faced Lie

When Alka's mother dies, she is left all alone and that's when she marries Subbu, owner of coffee plantation and she finds motherly love in Subbu's mother Anandi. Just when Alka feels she has finally found her home the secrets from her past are exposed. But her only dream was to study hard, buy a home so that her mother doesn't have to do work as a maid. She studied hard, got good marks, scholarship and was shifted to Bangalore for her further studies. David has grown up to be a remarkable man; a nationally recognized poverty and child welfare expert and advocate. The call for action and reform that the book concludes with has inspired me to push to complete my foster parent goals (that were put on hold during 2020). As a middle/working class, college educated, multi-racial, queer and non-Christian household; I interset with many of the desired demographics needed by the foster parent system in the United States today. This book also describes the story of a man named Krish, whose life got complicated because of his too much attachment to the materialistic world. Who was Mansi's boyfriend but his heart was snatched by Alka and Alka felt true love for the first time. But a tragic twist broke their bond. The plot behind this masterpiece is undoubtedly riveting. After a long time, got to decipher another female protagonist who herself rules the storyline from beginning to a determined end. Krish, a person who is strong, mentally and emotionally from the very beginning plays a great role polishing the character of the protagonist Alka.
