About this deal

Niall and Eden Paternoster start their Sunday the same way they always do – with a long drive, a visit to a country house and a quick stop at the local supermarket on the way home. And what about the reporter who seems to have a snitch in the department—he keeps publishing articles with information that the police want to keep close to the vest. Ollie is sure this is the right move for his family, but his wife and twelve-year-old daughter aren’t convinced. I think one part of me admires Peter James for doing this as he has almost certainly drawn a large percentage of readers into the next book (and I admit I am one of them! It’s the publication of the Sussex author’s latest crime novel, Not Dead Yet, featuring the county’s favourite policeman, Detective Superintentdent Roy Grace.

James utilises his knowledge of the movie industry (he used to be a Hollywood producer) to create convincingly gross and egotistical characters like Larry Brooker. Soon Grace and his team will find themselves in a race against time to save the life of a young street kid, while a desperate mother will stop at nothing to save her daughter’s life. For LA producer Larry Brooker, this is the movie that could bring the fortune that has so long eluded him. Peter James’ latest Brighton detective novel focuses on the glamorous movie world, and even features a Madonna-style rock singer who fears for her life when she attracts a crazed stalker. There are other tiny little aspects like this too, that just seems to be constantly reiterated and are becoming defining character trademarks. But there was one thing the estate agents didn’t mention; nobody in Cold Hill House ever survived beyond forty . Frankly, I’m looking forward to meeting Roy Grace on screen, because he doesn’t come across vividly on the page.

When an ashen faced David Beevers (sorry, David Barry) comes to the scene of carnage he exclaims, ‘This was King George’s worst nightmare. Moving from the heart of the city of Brighton and Hove to the Sussex countryside is a big undertaking for born townies, Ollie Harcourt, his wife, Caro, and their twelve-year-old daughter, Jade. Overall, though weaker in some elements compared to its predecessors, Not Dead Yet was hard-hitting, horrific and a true 'who done it' novel. Ruthless gangs, operating with military precision, have discovered a new black market flourishing in the shadows – an unthinkable source of wealth even more profitable than drugs.Another recurring thread in the books also pops up again – the mystery surrounding Grace’s missing wife, Sandy. An unidentifiable torso has turned up on Keith Winter’s chicken farm, and vicious gangster Amis Smallbone, whom Grace put away 12 years ago, has been released from prison bent on vengeance. One of the villains of the story plans to kill Gaia and a few other famous actors by making the Dragon Chandelier collapse onto them during the filming of a crucial scene in the Banqueting Room.
