About this deal

As I reached the paved path again I was wondering if it was sensible to bail off when I reached the Standedge trail path. The categories are fairly self explanatory - my reading of "Converted" is that it was a pillar that has been converted to a different type of survey monument, e. The summit can be identified by: large cairn Additional Notes: All the walks up Heald Brow on Mud and Routes can be seen above. There are good views here of the next stage with the Broadhead valley and the small hill of Hog Lowe Pike on the horizon. The path reaches the flattening plateau and around the spot height marked on the map as 506m (but frankly, good luck to you if you can ascertain the spot on the landscape) it crosses a few river beds and then totally vanishes.

Constructed between 1936-1962 as part of the Ordnance Survey’s retriangulation of Great Britain, this logbook is your ideal hiking companion as you ‘bag’ them all in Lancashire.

From here, poking out above the trees in the surrounding park you get amazing views across the Forest of Bowland and out to Morecombe Bay. There is also a number of other telecommunication masts and towers around the summit and side of the hill for mobile phones, Professional Mobile Radio users and emergency services. Some people set themselves the challenge of reaching a set number of trigs in a day, such as all the trigs in your local hills. Despite the hard nature of stainless hundreds of Kilroy and the “I was here” brigade had managed to scribe initials and the like over every square inch.

Starting in Marsden village, the joy of this route is that it is possible to do as much or as little of it as you like.

It turns out that Sheffield is a hotbed of trig baggers: people trying to visit all 88 points in the Peak District. From here follow the path (black dotted line on the map not the green right of way which isn’t on the ground) to reach the road. This was a half mile each way on a farm track which followed the Lancashire Way for a short distance before peeling off to climb north through an elaborate metal gate.
