About this deal

Baby Tanystropheus had necks shorter than their legs, but adult Tanystrophes had necks longer than the rest of their bodies (head, back, and tail) combined!

A New Specialized Prolacertilian (Reptilia: Archosauromorpha) from the Lower Triassic of the Orenburg Region, A. The only thing that is way off is the head, mostly because of the huge fangs, a feature Tanystropheus did not have in reality (though it does make him look mean and butch in this case). I apologize on behalf of my camera, which cannot zoom in very well sometimes, but as you can see, this fish-eating grin is what dreams are NOT made of.This Styracosaurus is mostly a naturalistic, dull pale green color with darker green flecks across the hide.

Due to the different material, both shades of green are brighter on the beastie's body than on the neck and tail. The body and legs are made out of hard plastic, while the tail and neck are composed of softer material to accommodate the figure's flexibility for its constricting action. It had a flexible neck to grab a human action figure ("constrictor neck attack"), which is something it cannot do in real life. Complete skeletons of juvenile individuals are most abundant in the Besano Formation of Switzerland, dating to 232 million years ago during the middle Triassic period (Ladinian stage) [5]. The other piece is substantially bigger and consists of a long piece of “wire” with a cuff at one end and another one in the middle, and a large muzzle on the other end. Compared to human figures it's about the right size, and its neck is as long as its body and tail combined, as was the case with the real life creature. The capture gear is okay, but it only adds to the possibility of paint wear if you attach it to the figure.

Others think that the super-long neck was used as a form of display, like the huge tail of a peacock. However this was impossible, because a) itsneck was very delicate;b)It couldn't held its neck above the ground, it was too long;c)It had poor sense of vision [2]. Tanystropheus' body is much bigger, and can take on larger prey, but is still vulnerable (though not as much as the Coelophysis figures). The Mattel Styracosaurus is so small that it comes across as underwhelming and is easy to overlook and criticize. Both are fully poseable and can be wrapped around other figures' limbs or even bodies, as if the Tanystropheus is some kind of big anaconda snake suffocating its victims before devouring him. The smallest of the two is your average cuff like tag, which can be attached to various body parts, like the tail or any of the legs, but the neck seems most obvious. The creature stands in a walking posture, with its hind left leg and front right leg moved forward and the other legs posed back. The biggest Tanystropheus specimen measured up to six meters in length, but I grew up with books telling me they were three meters long.
